Bought 2 mosquito nets as I knew the midges would still be bad in central Scotland while wild camping and I wasn’t wrong. Although certainly one of the best purchases I’ve probably made on Amazon they still weren’t an ideal solution but did save us while trying to cook dinner as the sun set.

First of all even on arrival you can tell they are quite cheap. They come in a very handy little bag but even after taking one net out of its bag and putting it back in, the bag ripped down the seam. The other however is still in tact. On the former bag, by the time I got it home, the drawstring had also come off it however it’s really no hardship as they are easily carried in our backpacks. The benefit of the little bag however is the fact it has a strap attached so could ideally be placed onto a belt too.

The net itself seems a bit better made. It easily fits over my head and has a drawstring although I ended up just tucking it into my fleece instead. The top of the net is more solid but the netting of the rest of it is far too big to stop midges getting in. I found that as long as it wasn’t flat to my skin e.g. resting on my nose, it stopped a lot of the midges biting me but really shouldn’t be marketed at a midge net. Viewing through the net as the sun was going down/while using torchlight was hindered by the netting but a better solution than anything else we had to cover ourselves with.

Yes it’s cheap, it’s average quality at best and not ideal for midges but worked a lot better than all of the insect repellents we had with us.

This was sold as a midge/mosquito net. Midges are tiny and the holes in this net would let them through. Only any good if the midges are the size of bees where you are!

This was bought for the purpose of fieldwork in northern Scotland. Unfortunately, the netting seemed to be too coarse allowing for many bugs to fly straight through and then get trapped inside the net making the situation even worse! It may depend on the area you're going to and therefore the bugs you're trying to keep out of your face, but for midges in Scotland this net is not appropriate.

This mosquito Head net is great worn over a hat and protects very well from midge bites when working in the garden or taking the dog for a walk. The midges bite everyone and everything they can where I live and this item has made life a lot easier (and confortable!) Thank you.
