Product Description

About the Author

William Makepeace Thackeray was a nineteenth century English novelist who was most famous for his classic novel, Vanity Fair, a satirical portrait of English society. With an early career as a satirist and parodist, Thackeray shared a fondness for roguish characters that is evident in his early works such as Vanity Fair, The Luck of Barry Lyndon, and Catherine, and was ranked second only to Charles Dickens during the height of his career. In his later work, Thackeray transitioned from the satirical tone for which he was known to a more traditional Victorian narrative, the most notable of which is The History of Henry Esmond. Thackeray died in 1863.

Stephen Wyatt is one of our leading radio dramatists, so this production very much deserves your attention. Please don't be misled by the wrongly included review currently on this page, which discusses a facsimile edition of the print book. Like any of Stephen Wyatt's audio works, this is deserving of five stars, not one!

This is a brilliantly entertaining adaptation of a classic that's often overlooked. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing the original radio transmission a year or two ago and am enjoying it even more on further listening, it will certainly be going with me on holiday. The sound quality on my download is perfect by the way. More Thackeray please !!!

This product is a very decent adaptation for radio. The previous review seems to be be holding it wrong. It's an audio download. And may I admit, it is a rather fabulous adaptation.

Take note, this is a reproduction edition of The Yellowplush Papers, which is not made clear in the description.

It is scanned from the original edition in 1852 so the typeface is quite difficult to read and not always clear.

If for some reason you want the original printed edition then look no further but if you just want to read the book then this is not suitable.
