Anyone contemplating a serious voyage will already be a competent sailor and doesn't need to know when you switched the engine on or shook out a reef, but the psychological aspect of being alone at sea for a length of time would be something alien to most, and the author tells it like it is. Fears and anxieties, and how he lived with them, sometimes better than others, are openly talked about. Particularly struck by his arrival in the Caribbean after the long crossing, the noise, the people and he 'just wanted them all to go away!'
