About the Author
Jill Barklem was born in Epping and led a quiet childhood enjoying being close to nature. On leaving school, she studied illustration at St Martin’s in London. The inspiration for Brambly Hedge appeared during Jill’s daily train journey between Epping and London: shutting herself off from the outside world, she became obsessed with the way of life of a band of hedgerow mice, later to be developed as the world of Brambly Hedge. Jill still lives in Epping, Essex.

My mum got me the originals as they came out - this is a set of the four classic season books - spring, summer, autumn, winter. They tell the adventure of several mouse families (and a vole or two). There are other ones to collect if you do like these. I brought them for one of my boyfriends nieces - I am unsure if she liked them as I have not yet asked her.
The illustrations are amazing and everyone should have a copy in their bookcase.
The stories in each book mark and describe each season with activity in the hedgerow and the most beautiful illustrations. Children will come back to these again and again and still find something new in each page. They suit boys and girls and parents will enjoy reading them as much as the children will enjoy hearing the stories and talking about what they see on every page.... the characters are adorable and there is much fun, excitement and nonsense to discover.
Now our eldest daughter is expecting we have re bought these books as a present for her impending child.
The attention to detail in the illustrations of the world of Brambly hedge will keep both child and adult occupied for hours as they pour over cottages tree stumps and mills the stories themselves will enthrall during the reading process.
If you haven't already discovered the world of Jill Barklem brambly hedge then you're missing out on a truly uplifting exzperience so go ahead and buy now.
