Product description

About the Author

Ben Moran was hand-reared on a farm in the west of Ireland in the 1970's. It became clear at an early age that he wasn't cut out for anything but telling lies. Repressing the urge to become a politician, he turned to the more harmless act of story-telling, hoping to tap into a proud tradition in the region since Brian Boru's day. YARNS is Ben's first group of stories, curated from a rich vein (or bottomless pit) of them. Stay in touch with Ben and other members of the West Clare Writers Collective @DuplicatorBooks

I loved this book, beautifully written and imaginative. It makes me want to meet each and every character described in each story! For native Irish and blow ins alike!

Yarns is an absolutely fantastic read and ALIVE with the essence of Ireland. The short stories are full of character and personalities that we all have met, and become very fond of over the years in Ireland. Ben writes as if he is living and breathing these conversations and thoughts, and I was blown away by his ability to capture the heart of the people of Ireland in such a concise manner. Do yourself a favour and buy this! It will put an enormous smile on your face!

I like the quirky humour and descriptions of people in situations that are vaguely familiar, but cleverly constructed.

This book should be read by anybody seeking to understand the complexities of country life in the west of Ireland, where the calm surface hides so much 'uisce faoi thalamh'.

Looking forward to the next collection of Yarns.

Each of these Yarns capture the humor plenty of the peculiarity of the West Clare folk embedded throughout. The writing style helps build scenarios and develop characters that can easily be visualised. Very many enjoyable descriptions of people, places and hilarious situations!
