My hearing is probably knackered after years listening to loud music. I prefer a more old fashioned sound that good Japanese H-fi`s had in the late 70`s through to 80`s. That`s why my amp is an 80`s vintage Technics SU10VX . I bought these as a set of remote speakers mainly as my better half didnt want my old Wharfedale 507.2`s stuck out in the middle of the floor, so I wanted a second set of speakers that I could hide in the corners, to fill the room better with sound.
The Wharfedales, bought in 1991 , I think, again are an old fashioned kind of speaker. Modern speakers to my ears are quite flat in their response, as are many high end Hi-fi`s - aparently this is the way hi-fi "should" sound...not to me it aint! If you like that flat response, quite mid based sound these little Yamahas are fine. They are very very punchy for their size , with good bass. Top end is lacking, but then I like my highs , high [may be that knackered hearing again]
As an add on , they complement the existing speakers surprisingly well. I suspect in a small room with a minisystem , on their own, they would be fine. If you are looking for speakers to match with a full sized system, I think they wouldnt be man enough for the job, but then most tiny speakers arent. As add ons for a home cinema package , or hi-fi they are perfect. If you like brighter sounding speakers, perhaps look elsewhere though. Build is classy and they look good.
Would I buy again? Unusually Amazon were not the cheapest , and for a £15 saving delivered on the Amazon price, I think I got a bargain.
