The perfect solution for those wanting a light, simple and stylish portable piano. Yamahas legendary stereo sampled grand piano voice gives true, realistic tone, whilst the compact dimensions and light weight of the NP31 makes this instrument a truly 'personal' piano
From the Manufacturer
The Yamaha Piaggero NP-31 is a slim, lightweight and compact piano-style keyboard. It has an exceptionally realistic piano sound thanks to Yamaha’s AWM stereo sampling tone generation technology and has a box-type graded soft touch 76 note keyboard.
Available in black or silver finishes and operating from 6 AA size batteries or the included mains adaptor, the NP-31 can be easily transported or stored away when not in use. The instrument has built-in speakers and can also be used with headphones.
Graded Soft Touch Keyboard
The NP-31 features a 76-key touch-sensitive keyboard with box-type, non-weighted, piano style keys. With Yamaha's Graded Soft Touch keyboard, the lower keys are heavier in touch and the higher keys are lighter, just as on an actual piano, whilst retaining the softer touch of a digital keyboard.
The touch sensitivity of the keyboard can be adjusted or even turned off completely which is useful for anyone who cannot press the keys firmly.
Light & Portable
Variety of Sounds
Dual Voice combines two sounds together (e.g. piano and strings) for greater versatility.
MIDI enables the NP-31 to be connected to other MIDI-compatible devices such as other instruments or computers. An optional sustain pedal can also be attached.
The instrument has built-in speakers but can also be used with headphones for private practice.
The NP-31 can be used with an optional sustain pedal such as the Yamaha FC5 or FC4. An optional matching stand is also available, the L2c.

I took the following criteria into consideration:
1. Keyboard as it offers the best foundation.
2. 76 keys as I read that 98% of the existing pieces can be played.
3. Yamaha as it was considered a dynamic keyboard, which reflects very well the player's finger movements, acceleration.
4. Silver colour, because my wife said black needs constant dusting.
5. Light and portable so we can take it when we visit other relatives and we can play together.
Ordered on 22rd December from Norman Music and it was delivered on 24th.
For the time being I placed it on an ironing board to find the right hight, I intend to buy an X stand. So we can put it away when space is needed. I kept the original box which is a very slim, upright storage space next to a bookshelf.
Bought a headset too, but not Yamaha that is far too expensive,
I play every morning before going to work and evening when I get home and my granddaughter wants to learn how to play.
Will write an Android app to listen on Midi-port and compare the played note with the scores.
It is an inspiring acquisition.
Only thing I am really going to need to get used to is the number of keys (the keyboard's range is an E0 to a G6.) My fingers are going to have to get used to this because, for example I can't play a D octave in the bass using a D0, I have to use a D1 and D2. This is perhaps me nitpicking though.
Overall thoroughly recommended for beginners or pro players on a budget, like myself.

And certainly its economic keyboard
I bought the NP31 as a second keyboard for use with a Tyros 4 - with a few bits of wood I got it to sit on the front of the Tyros stand with the Tyros on top. Read morePublished on 27 Nov. 2012 by Mr. Dennis V. Long
