The Xterra Free Style 5.8e elliptical cross trainer has a generous stride length of 20" (50.8cm) and features a Q-Factor (distance between pedals) of two inches which encourages a biomechanically correct stride. It provides a choice of 20 incline and 20 resistance levels (both electronically controlled) to ensure challenging and effective workout sessions. The treadmill has a large, user-friendly 7.5" display which provides feedback on crucial workout statistics, and a selection of 13 programmes. Heart rate can be measured easily via the grip pulse sensors or the supplied chest strap and the machine's wireless receiver. Enhanced comfort during training is also ensured by the oversized, padded pedals and the multi-grip handlebars which have remote resistance and incline controls.

It's amazing, I'm a big guy so I needed the extra weight allowance with this machine, it's lovely and smooth, the fan that's built in is dinky but it does a good job. The speakers aren't brilliant but come on......they're an added bonus really - we've got music set up in the room anyway.
The display and programs are easy to follow and it's fairly quiet in running - the odd clink here and there but that's probably down to the assembly - I need to re check the nuts and bolts.
So the Cross Trainer itself is a great piece of kit and I'd recommend it to anyone - and the delivery was good too, two guys delivered it as it is damn heavy.
Xterra - the manual is a nonsense - it advises you to connect the 5 wires to the 5 ports on the computer part......and there are only 4 WIRES!!!! I had to call customer services for them to tell me that it was ok, the manual was wrong. The thing is....the manual is horribly written, whether it's a bad translation from German to English - I don't know....but it's horribly written. It guides you through via put "number 1 in number 3" etc.....but the diagrams that accompany it don't always make sense - infact BE AWARE that you have to fit the PLASTIC COVER to the top of the flywheel (where the column goes in) BEFORE you put everything else together. The pictures show this but the text never mentioned it - and I missed it, I had to then take it all to pieces again.
Also a tip from me - there's a piece of thin foam that covers the central "flywheel" section - make sure you get some sort of extra cover on there while you're constructing it - I dropped two bolts as I was screwing things together, they bounced off the foam cover......and bounced into the flywheel section. Make sure you have a magnet and a wire coat hanger if you're putting this together yourself.
You get all the screws and bolts, nuts etc - and a screwdriver with a couple of spanners too. If you can....get a socket set on the job - it's far easier and quicker.
Oh and registering the product - you're given a link to www.new-level.co.uk to register the product - all my attempts to register it and fill in the "contact us" form have been fruitless - the website doesn't work right and it's a nightmare phoning customer services. I'm still trying to get mine registered and it's 3 weeks since it was delivered.
So in summary - BUY IT......but I believe SWEATBAND sell it pre-built - I wish I'd gone for this option because it's a pain in the arse to build it - and you really need at least two people to do it.
The machine itself is as smooth as silk, the large heavy flywheel keeping everything turning at a nice constant resistance. The incline option is very smooth, and the range of programs is excellent to give a variety of workouts. The included chest strap heart rate monitor is a godsend, as it leaves your hands free to change positions half way through without losing sight of your heart rate.
The machine is heavy duty, and it is very well constructed and rock solid, despite the fact that I'm a big heavy guy. It has as many options as those at the gym I used to go to.
I am very pleased with this purchase, and it is very good value compared to comparable machines and I can not fault it in any way.
COMES WITH A HEARTRATE CHEST STRAP AGAIN I HAVENT USED THIS AS THE CROSSTRAINER ALSO WORKS WITH MY POLAR CHEST STRAP,I WEAR 2 CHEST STRAPS 1 LINKED TO THE CONSOLE AND POLAR WATCH AND THE OTHER LINKED TO MY TABLET AND I USE THE RUNTASTIC APP TO HELP ME WORKOUT IN THE PROPER HEARTRATE ZONE :)
THE CONSOLE IS EASY TO USE AND DISPLAYS LOST OF INFORMATION TO KEEP YOU UPDATED ON YOUR PROGRESS,IF YOU PRESS THE ENTER BUTTON WHILST IN YOUR PROGRAM YOU CAN CHOOSE WHAT INFORMATION TO DISPLAY,I HAVE IT SET ON SCAN WHICH RUNS THROUGH ALL THE INFORMATION EVERY FEW SECONDS.
THE INCLINE FEATURE IS NEW TO ME BUT WORKS VERY WELL,IT TAKES A BIT OF GETTING USED TO GOING UP IS FINE,BUT WHEN IT GOES DOWN ITS A STRANGE FEELING LIKE THE FLOOR IS FALLING AWAY FROM YOU.
THE HAND GRIPS ARE GOOD AND OFFER PLENTY OF DIFFRENT HOLDING POSITIONS AND ITS GREAT IDEA HAVE THE INCLINE AND RESISTANCE BUTTONS ON THE HAND GRIPS.
I HAVENT USED THE STATIONRY HEARTRATE GRIPS AS I WEAR THE CHEST STRAP.
EASY TO FOLLOW BUILDING INSTTRUCTIONS
EASY TO FOLLOW USER MANUAL AND SET UP GUIDE
EASY TO USE CROSSTRAINER
I AM OVER THE MOON WITH MY PURCHASE FROM XTERRA FITTNESS AND I WOULD RECOMEND THIS CROSSTRAINER TO EVERYONE.
IT HAS A GREAT USER WEIGHT ALLOWANCE UNLIKE SOME MACHINES.
LIFETIME ON FRAME
5 YEAR PARTS
2 YEAR LABOUR
IF YOUR TRYING TO LOOSE WEIGHT THIS MACHINE WILL HELP YOU REACH YOUR GOALS,DONT USE THE WORD DIET REPACE IT WITH GETTING FITTER.
EVERYBODY CAN LOSE WEIGHT,I WAS 19ST 10LB 3 YEARS AGO,AFTER BUYING A CROSSTRAINER AND USING IT DAILY I WAS ABLE TO REVERSE TYPE 2 DIABETES AND LOSE 7.5ST ALONG THE WAY.MY DOCTOR HAS TOLD ME NOT TO LOSE ANYMORE WEIGHT,BUT I STILL USE THE CROSSTARINER EACH AND EVERY DAY FOR 90 MINS.I AM NOW ADDICTED TO KEEPING FIT.
ITS ALL DOWN TO SMALL LIFESTYLE CHANGES.
AS MY DOCTOR TOLD ME EAT LESS AND MOVE MORE.
Previous reviews have mentioned that after a few days the machine started to make a noise, I have to say this is not the case with mine (I suspect that nuts and bolts have not been thightened up properly) all in all one of my best purchases to date.
