Product Description

Gin Xoriguer ceased to be merely a local curiosity and became a product with an ever widening reach, opening the way in the market with its quality and attractive bottling. It is the result of distillation in traditional copper stills, using high quality wine alcohol and carefully selected juniper berries, which come from the neighbouring Mediterranean mountains, together with aromatic herbs. These herbs are the jealousy guarded "secret" of the liquor's original bouquet. Only the heirs of family know the identity and proportion of this valuable ingredient, which is added behind closed doors and without witnesses, at the start of each distilling. The respect for tradition is such that the fuel still used today in the distillation is wood. The distillation begins when the vapours which are produced in the still's boiler circulate through copper pipes until they reach a coil, where they condense, forming a precious liquid that drips into jars. An expert tastes the liquid at intervals to determine the pecise moment when the distillation is complete. Once this is accomplished the gin is stored in large oak barrels, where it retains unchanging its colour, flavour and aroma, until finally it is bottled.

'Do you want Gordon's or Local Gin?' said the waiter at La Quinta hotel in Menorca. My wife opted for the 'Local Gin' - and said she'd never tasted anything like it before. She liked it so much we bought a litre home with us.
I know there are a lot of gin snobs around these days, and I have no idea how this fits into their world, but as a something different, this gets top marks. Apparently it's to do with using fermented grape juice not grain. Whatever. (I prefer malt whisky myself).
Buying imported gin isn't cheap, but once you've tried Xoriguer of Mahon, other gins just aren't the same...

Anyone who has tried this in Minorca will know how awesome it tastes served long with cloudy lemonade and ice - but it's subtle taste doesn't seem to catch on with the general public. Try some al fresco on a summers day - you'll be back for more!

Mahon gin is the best! I have bought some as a gift for somebody for Christmas. It arrived quickly and there were no problems.

First tasted in Majorca this summer. Wow - it took my breath away.
Surprisingly difficult to get hold of in the UK at a reasonable price considering it cost peanuts in Majorca.
Nevertheless, the first sip transported me back to a fab taverna next to the sea.

The best Gin I have ever tasted. But the seller really should state that the cap is designed to be used using an Optic bar dispenser. The only way to pour the contents out is to first saw off the cap mechanism leaving the bottle damaged.

Don't be fooled by the non-trendy packaging - gin was introduced to Menorca by the British and Xoriguer is one of the oldest gin recipes in the world. In this case old is best and this is fabulous with Tonic or Bitter Lemon. For the authentic Menorca taste use Kas Limon, sold all over Spain, as it is better balanced for sweet/sharp than most bar bitter lemons.
Any Gin Bar without this values pretentiousness over taste. Buy it.

Lovely taste. One for the expert to taste. Takes you back to holidays on Majorca and evenings on the beach.
