When working is a good printer. Unfortunately, once you replace the Yellow ink you get constant error messages, the supplier sends out an engineer that takes 2.5hrs to fix. One printed while he was here onsite and then fails again when printing colour. Asked for the printer to be replaced as its only two months old. No thats not possible, engineer now heading back to try again.

I bought one of these for our Rotary charity so we could print our own posters and bi-monthly bulletin and at first I loved it. The duplex feature works well and the colours are superb. BUT after spending hours on the phone to the Xerox technicians and having home visits, I am less than enamoured. Point 1, never, ever EVER, think of putting anything but original branded Xerox toner in it. The imaging drums give up at the first whif of anything different and they cost more than a new printer. Point 2: The first time you change the toner, the country code gets set to whatever toner you put in so if you buy from abroad, subsequent toner replacements just end up with the message 'Invalid Toner' and the printer sulks in defiant silence. Point 4, If you inadvertantly get sent a 'Metered' toner cartridge, the printer asks for a 4 digit code in order to print and you are really stuck. Point 5, I got repeated paper jams just as the paper exits and had a very difficult job unjamming it. The paper goes through a 90 degree bend at this point as it leaves the fuser unit and it really jams solid. A new fuser unit did not clear the fault and it turned out to be Xerox's own paper that was causing it. I changed to cheaper paper and it's OK so far. Point 6. The toner is available in standard and high capacity cartridges. These (the black cartridge anyway) are supposed to give 3000 and 8000 prints each at 5% coverage. In practice, you get much, much less than this and once the on-board chip has said you have reached the capacity, you can't print. And they are very expensive.
Update - I've now had this printer quite a while and would like to add the following: 1. On Win 7 ultimate using a wired network connection, I have to start the computer, start the printer and only then start the programs I want to use. Any other order and the printer does nothing. Win 7 Home on another WiFi connected computer works OK. 2. The printer must be set as the default or it just sulks. 3. Still getting occasional paper jams. 3. Toner costs are ridiculous and I am still getting nowhere near the number of prints per cartridge that they say I will. 4. A full set of standard cartridges costs more than a new printer - WHY?

We have this printer, and it really works well. like all printers the toner is stupidly expensive, but I would agree using xerox toner is best. The print quality is good and we use ours as a small office print station, sometimes printing newsletters etc and it can take a hammering.
Often the difficulty of looking through reviews is peoples differing experiences, which may not be down to the printer itself but a bad apple or a particular situation.
