But every year I have issues getting a card recognised and every year I have to contact MS XBox Live to get it sorted out, which it is. This year I did it by direct chat, which worked fine and some poor girl at MS had the complete non-issue sorted in a minute flat.
So, the cards DO work and they're great because they are the cheapest way - but it always seems to me like MS like to make it a hassle so do be prepared for that.
It is MS XBox Live that is the screw up, not the card itself in my experience.
(Just now incidentally, it's worth keeping an eye on developments in the Xbox Live world too. It may be that Micro$oft are about to make certain subscription apps accessible without membership at long last, so if you don't want to do online gaming you may not even need the membership soon.)
This time round the card only(!) offers a bonus month, it doesn't seem to include the exclusive in-game bling that our last one did a year ago. Therefore there appears to be NO ASSOCIATION between the CoD Ghosts game and this card other than the printed logo. In particular NOBODY SHOULD THINK THAT THIS CARD INCLUDES THE GAME! It doesn't.
The procedure is the same though: rip open the cardboard sleeve to find a scratch-off panel inside, scratch off the obscuring silver stuff to reveal your code, follow the printed instructions to enter your code into your account on the web or at your console, et voila, your expiry date is extended by 13 months.
I carried out the process on the web and didn't have any problems redeeming the code.
It seems a no-brainer in terms of value for money, especially if you've got free delivery through Prime or by making this part of a larger order. Happy gaming one and all.
There's not much really to review in terms of the card – if you're looking at this then you already have some idea of what the "gold" service on Xbox Live gives you. If you don't then, in short it gives you access to online and/or multiplayer features in games that have them and also to free games every month.
I can confirm that the card worked for me and that it credited me the extra month.
paying for games/console n then to play online as well!!! cum on
cant even provide dedicated surver for my games thus makin them laggy- runing da online experience
The branded ones, like this Call of Duty one usually come with an extra month or (previously) Microsoft Points in addition to your 12 month subscription.
You will need a Gold account in order to play 99.9% of Xbox games online and this is attributed to the maintenance of Microsoft's server infrastructure. Once you activate the code you'll have a one calendar years subscription, leap years giving you an extra day per year.
Your Xbox live account is linked to both your Xbox 360 and Xbox One, meaning a subscription will enable both consoles to be played online if you're using the same account.
If you're the owner of an Xbox console then I'd highly recommend you take your gaming experience online for some competitive games.
The only negatives about Xbox live centre around the quantity of cheaters/lag switchers/dos attackers/rage kids that plague the XB community and the monumental lag at peak times, overall you should still give XB live a go.
