Excellent and well written story explaining the British involvement in supporting and supplying the French Resistance movement including highlighting the politically very different groupings. Their courage and excellent links with the RAF was explained. What was most shocking was the behaviour of the Gaullist government, demanded that all the British supported agents left the country within 36 hours once France had been liberated.

After reading many other books about the SOE, in which many brave British agents and French resisters suffered tragic ends, this account of daring success will lift your heart. Very well written and highly recommended.

A good insight to what a SOE agent had to cope with and do behind the lines in France. Initially stupidly brave and naive - they learnt quickly or died soon. Sometimes even that wasn't enough, luck would play its part of course. Also, just as interesting, Heslop tells you a lot about the French resistance movement including the attitude to not only the Germans, but the British too. Definitely worth reading if you have some interest in WWII.

I did enjoy this story. I am into "war experiences" and this fulfilled my curiosity into what the SOE did, and suffered for the sake of the French people.

A good read, but as someone else said, heavy going at times.

Without that special kind of bravery, where would we be.
