I loved this film when it first came out and I love it still to this day, 10 years after it was first released.

xXx focuses on renegade Xander Cage, a carefree hellraiser who is thrown into the world of international espionage and terrorism "overnight", to use the term. It isn't long before the NSA recruit him and send him to Prague in the Czech Republic to investigate a terrorist group, 'Anarchy 99'. However, it isn't long before X finds himself befriending the group he is supposed to be investigating and so he must choose between the mission or his "friends".

Right from the off here, there are immediate parallels to Bond - the cars, the women, the gadgets all the way to the general plot of the film. Despite this, xXx is a new breed of secret agent. Where Bond plays by the book, Xander opts not to! Where Bond 'must' save the world (in the sense that it's his job), you feel that, in the context of this film, Xander 'has' to save the world, even though he may not really want to do so.

I also loved some of the characters in film. Ok, most of them are 'Eastern European', but their motives are rather believable, in my view.

The music scene and the extreme sports segments of the film are really good. Once again, Director Rob Cohen delivers the sense that xXx is a new breed of secret agent.

If I had to select any kind of flaw with the film, it would definitely be the casting of Vin Diesel as Xander. Sorry but, for me, he is laughable to appaling, even at the best of times, in my honest opinion!

Overall, xXx is a great film in my book and one that I would not hesitate to recommend to you! Witness a new breed of secret agent here - one that is not afraid to not play by the rules!!

Watch this film, essential viewing!

What exactly do you want here? Shakespeare? Vin Diesel plays a video game style action hero/antihero who lives life for driving sports cars off bridges. Like a certain substance I could mention it does exactly what it says on the tin. If this kind of movie is not your bag, well so be it, but if it is then this is high octane fun with some good stunts, some good one liners, and the antihero wins the day and gets the girl. It is noisy, there are explosions, and yes on a couple of occasions you get to see a great deal of bare flesh, enjoy it on the simple level that it is designed for and you will not be disappointed.

By Daniel Jolley HALL OF FAMETOP 500 REVIEWER on 31 Dec. 2005
Format: DVD
I'm not a huge fan of action movies, but I've quite enjoyed both of the XXX films. The original, starring Vin Diesel, is chock full of things that go boom, and I don't think the story is all that bad. I was especially happy to finally get to see Asia Argento for the first time - she is, among other things, the daughter of one of the true greats of European horror. I must admit I'm still not quite sure what all the Vin Diesel hysteria is about, though. He's certainly a different breed of actor, but I thought he had a few moments of inconsistency here. One thing I really don't understand is the inevitable comparisons between XXX and James Bond. I would never have even thought of comparing them because I see them as two completely different characters occupying opposite ends of the secret agent spectrum.
So, anyway, Vin Diesel plays Xander Cane, a rebel with an X Games mentality and a penchant for sticking it to the man. It's enough to get him noticed by NSA Agent Gibbons (Samuel L. Jackson), and - needless to say - Xander passes Gibbons' test and soon finds himself ensconced amidst a group of dangerous anarchists in Prague. The bad guys are your typical malcontented youths who oppose everything society stands for and revel in the idea of unfettered freedom. What makes them special, though, are the scope of their operation and the plans they are cooking up to make the whole world all but implode. The newly christened XXX knows how to walk the walk and talk the talk, and that puts him in a position to learn just what Anarchy 99 is up to. Naturally, there's a woman thrown in the mix - the mysterious Yelena (Asia Argento), a pivotal member of the organization who might very well be more than she seems.

Format: DVD
xXx is directed by Rob Cohen and written by Rich Wilkes. It stars Vin Diesel, Asia Argento, Marton Csokas, Samuel L. Jackson & William Hope. It's shot mostly in Prague with Dean Semler on photography and Randy Edelman scores the music.

Underground adrenaline sports hero Xander Cage has fractured just one too many laws. The secret service, in desperate need of agents tough enough to complete the most hazardous of missions, have Xander under threat of prison, something he can avoid if he gets to Prague and infiltrates Anarchy 99 and foil their fiendish terrorist plot.

You can just imagine the meeting of minds at the lunch table for discussion on xXx. Right, so it looks like the James Bond franchise is heading downwards again, and this up coming Bourne thingy probably wont have any legs. Look guys, I really think there is a market opening for a kick ass secret agent movie. Lets get beefcake man mountain Vin Diesel to star, set it in a quality location, maybe Prague, and let all hell break loose. Slot in a foxy chick like Asia Argento to stir the loins of the thrash metal Satan worshippers, and put in a crazy Bondian villain intent on making the world implode.

You know what? They went ahead and did it. Made for $70 million the film, in spite of divisive reviews, went on to make over $270 million Worldwide. The out shot is that xXx is just over two hours of disposable, unadulterated, explosive action fun. 6.5/10
