Bought this from ukprostore on amazon to support a Sony 5" field monitor clamped to a tripod arm. I was concerned that one reviewer had thought it too fragile and broken a thread on first use, but I have had no problems with mine. Just loosen the main tension nut and set the bar into whatever position you want, then re-tighten and it goes rigid in the configured shape. The clamp also seems robust and holds everything steady when attached to tripod arm. It also comes with adapters so you can shoe or screw mount items to it.

Bear in mind that this is a light weight arm and not designed for heavy loads. It will happily support a flash, field monitor, a compact or even a bridge camera. I might stick one of the smaller dslr's on it with a small lens if I really needed to, but I wouldn't push my luck much beyond that.

This is obviously a clone of an arm that would cost you several times the price if you buy a branded one. I always worry with these things that you might end up with a piece of junk and wish you'd forked out the cash for a branded one in the first place, but I decided to take a punt on this and I'm very happy I did.

I'm fairly sure this isn't from Manfrotto, which is why I'm surprised it's called what it is.
A real Magic Arm is just that: an arm that LOCKS as if by magic.
This 'sort of' locks, and then you fit anything onto it and it very (very!) quickly lets go!
The middle locking section (the 'elbow', if you will) is fine, it's the 'wrists' that let it down.
I'm fitting an additional 3.5" monitor onto the top of my trusty ol' Sony Z1, so I can keep an eye on what the other camera operator is shooting, so we don't get too many duplicate shots, etc (plus, it means I can see how much remaining recording time there is in the other camera!)
Anyway, the monitor weighs a LOT less than the light I bought recently (recently bought? - yes, recently bought, because I didn't buy any 'recentlies'!) - but it still relies upon careful positioning and balancing to prevent the monitor just swinging around and facing the wrong way.
Personally, I'd add a couple of small locking screws at either 'wrist' and, as soon as I am able to - I will!
But having said all that - it LOOKS good, and we all know how important that is, right kids?!

Brilliant bit of kit. Much smaller the the manfrotto magic arm but does it's job wonderfully.

You wont be putting anything heavy like a camera on here, but for attaching little accessories it's great. The reason I got it was that I needed a way of attaching my Zoom h4n to my DSLR and it does exactly that.

My one gripe is that the hotshoe mount doesn't like to stay tightened up for very long but I soon got around that by using the clamp to attach it to my camera rig instead.

Multi-use, well engineered (mostly) and something I can't see myself working without now.

I purchased this item hoping for a stable, strong mount so that I could fit my monitor to it whilst filming, turns out that it is very weak and doesn't keep the monitor held up at all. You have to constantly keep moving it up every 10 seconds and the worst part is, the padding on the clamps peels off straight away and aren't made to withstand such friction.

Another problem I encountered was that the balled joints were loose and you couldn't tighten them, this made the structure collapse a lot of the time and made it very awkward to film.

This product clearly wasn't tested well enough and wasn't made properly for filming or holding heavy items such as monitors, lights and so on. Very disappointed in this product and will be returning it immediately for something that is properly built for these tasks.

Not much to say really, it works as it should. Easy to use, and tightens nice and tight. Been using it to hang a quite heavy monitor and battery from my tripod with no issues. Just gotta make sure you get it real tight otherwise it might slip on you slowly. But that is to be expected. The clamp works great and has both size threaded holes so you can use it with a variety of things. Also the hotshoe adapter on one end is removable and underneath is a 1/4 inch thread bolt so you can attach flashes, monitors, or whatever else has that thread size.

Good buy!

As a regular DSLR , compact digital and GoPro user, I have a variety of different fixed mounts, grips, tripods and suction cup mounts for holding the different cameras. At work we have some Manfrotto "magic arms", which we use for holding barcode scanners and vision cameras at any angle in a fixed location, and I was looking for a similar, but smaller version of this for holding my cameras in a similar way. I saw this XCSource 11 inch Articulating Magic Arm and Super Clamp, which was almost exactly what I was after, and decided to give it a go.

What's Included:
* XCSource 11" Articulating Magic Arm
* XCSource Super Clamp

The Details:
The XCSource 11" Articulating Magic Arm and Super Clamp are packaged in a plain white cardboard box, and are protected by bubble wrap inside.

The clamp, which can be detached from the arm, is very solid, and consists of 2 large metal jaws with rubber lining the inside of each jaw, and a large screw through them both which a rod on the end to tighten or loosen the jaws. At their widest, the jaws can cope with a solid desk top measuring 40mm in thickness, and would not move once tightened up.

The magic arm can be screwed into the clamp, or can have a "hot shoe" attachment fitted. The latter allows the arm to be mounted off the flash hot shoe bracket on the top of my Canon EOS 7D, and attach either my GoPro (using a GoPro tripod adapter) or my Canon IXUS 100IS to the top of the arm giving me single handed DSLR photo shooting, while also capturing video from the other camera.

The magic arm consists of 2 connected poles each measuring around 10cm, and each having a ball mounted 1/4" tripod screw thread and thightening thumbwheel.
