Book Description

The mass market edition of the life-changing book that reveals how to beat the body's predisposition towards heart disease, diabetes, early ageing and weight gain

From the Back Cover

ENTER THE X FACTOR...
You have the power to shed fat permanently - beginning with your next meal.

This book can change your life forever:
- Forget calorie counting
- Optimise your health
- Banish cravings
- Boost energy
- Develop a firm, sleek body
- Slow ageing

A recently discovered group of metabolic disorders known as Syndrome X has spawned obesity on a scale never seen before. Also known as insulin resistance syndrome, it predisposes us to high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and early ageing. It also lowers our energy levels, makes us fat, and keeps us that way.

The major culprit is the high-carb/low-fat diet we have been urged to follow, which is completely at odds with the diet of plants, protein and omega-3 fats that the human body has evolved to cope with.

Leslie Kenton's scientifically backed The X Factor Diet restores normal weight naturally - without pills, without hunger and without hardship - while simultaneously overcoming the health hazards that excess weight brings in its wake. You'll be amazed at how quickly your body changes and how soon you'll be enjoying permanent weight loss, boundless energy and a leaner, healthier body.

Inside you will find:
- Two fat-loss programmes
- Delicious recipes and easy meal plans
- Foolproof guide to kick-start your diet
- Fast-track supplements and exercise guide

I am a Kenton fan, my bookshelf proves it. I read the book in one go and hated it. It appeared to contradict everything I thought Leslie Kenton believes in with regards to health and food.
And then I tried it, basically only because of my high regard for the author. The result is outstanding. I sleep 2 hours less than before (honest), I have a huge amount of energy, my skin has cleared up, I started excercising for the first time in 15 years (weightlifting!), I have lost all my cravings for sweets and junk food. My friends admire my willpower but I don't need willpower at all. I just don't want the stuff. I found that I don't spend more money on food either. And yes, I just put my old trouser away. I cannot wear them anymore, they are too big. If you try this diet, please do read through it carefully. The only time I got into trouble was when I thought I know better. For example, I did not use the Ketosticks first of all. Not a good idea as I was burning too much fat and it made me feel ill. And this is not another Atkins diet, I tried that one and failed miserably. This is about regulating your blood sugar level and getting your insulin production back to normal. So, I continue to say bye-bye to my excess pounds and bye-bye to cravings and hunger!

This diet is working well for me. Leslie Kenton's book takes a lot of reading and it would benefit from an 'idiots' guide' section on exactly what to do, rather than the somewhat unclear section in the middle of the book that is surrounded by all sorts of other things. However, if you are willing to give the book time and thought to absorb it properly it is packed with information that is very enlightening. Following this method is allowing me to shed 3 stone and I feel marvellous on it. It does work. I have more energy, a clear head, a happy spirit and feel 100% better than I did before I was eating this way. I no longer have the dips in energy or the craving for bread, cake, crisps etc that I could get before. It has freed me from those intermittent but ever-recurring enslavements to eating for the sake of eating. It's not hard either. Once I had understood the principles and worked it through it was easy to integrate this way of eating into my life. A little bit of planning the night before for packed lunches is the most it takes really.
I love the fact that I am shedding stones, feeling good, and I don't have to suffer to get these benefits. This way of eating feels right to me.

Having seen a review of this book in a Sunday newspaper and recognising myself in the description of who it was suitable for, I sent off for it immediately. I began Ketogenics just after Christmas and have lost 14lb in seven weeks. But even better than that, I feel full of energy and vitality. I eat good quality organic meat, fish and chicken, organic veg and a small amount of dairy and drink 3l water a day - I only eat when I'm hungry and no longer have cravings for chocolate and biscuits as I used to do. This isn't a diet, it is a way of eating for life. It may not be suitable for everyone but anyone who feels sluggish after eating a meal high in carbohydrates and is constantly craving food should give it a go.

I tried this diet with the usual sinking feeling of, 'here we go again'. Not the most enthusiastic or positive way to start a new way of eating. I felt like this because I have tried so many plans (including Atkins) and very quickly began to crave whatever I had cut out or felt ill.
The X Factor diet was a completely new experience for me. I felt better than I have ever done before, dieting or not dieting. The bonus being that I lost several pounds very quickly. Yes, you can eat cream, cheese etc on Atkins and, for me, that made me feel nauseous and weak. Yes, this diet can be expensive but what price health and feeling good? It is worth the sacrifice to feel energetic, healthy and lose weight.

The Atkins diet never seemed healthy to me as it banned fruit and encouaged high fat foods - how sensible if that?? I've been following this X-factor diet for 4 months, and have lost over 10 kilos - and feel great. This is a diet that really works...

This IS the Atkins diet, the main difference being that Robert Atkins allows cream and cheese (delicious, natural, inexpensive and easily obtainable foods), Kenton advises Microfiltered Whey Protein (highly processed, expensive and not easily obtained in the local supermarket). I know which I would prefer!
This book is well-written and has a good format, but it IS just a copy of many other books on the subject and it does contain contradictions. Kenton argues that the low-fat diet is a bad idea, then advises eating low-fat cottage cheese!
Dr. Atkins is the real pioneer, he is a cardiologist who has stuck to his guns for years, despite a lot of criticism. Kenton has previously advocated various 'raw food/juice' fad diets and I think it is totally wrong for her to claim that this 'new' diet is revolutionary in any way.
The important thing about this book is that it adds yet more weight to Atkins arguments.

It's a high protein, good fats and very low carb diet for the fatties who have to do Ketogenics, more carbs for the Insulin Balance people. It works on the principle of giving your body nothing to produce insulin for (carbs) and then your body has to burn all that stored fat, thereby losing weight in a guaranteed way at 2 lbs per week until it's all gone. I've done it for 6 days now and feel very ill despite drinking the compulsory 2l of water per day: headache, nausea, mental confusion and I never want to look at another protein, despite newly reorganised life around NO CARBS (except the few you get off some light saladings, a few veg and very few fruits). It probably needs medical supervision but I know my GP would rule out the diet immediately. What does a fat girl do? Wait for Leslie's next book. I buy them all, all saying something slightly different. The book is the first realistic one about how to burn fat, but how to live this way without a support group which Dr Atkins' Diet does have in the USA? She says it's safe but I feel ill.
