This is a very heartfelt and touching story and one where addiction comes into play and ends with dire consequences.
There are so many stages throughout this storyline that have you thinking.... this can't be happening, how can they do this and this surely can't end well.
Not only does Rogan lose his wife Etherly and I have to say I couldn't help wondering what would have happened if Rogan had go along with what his wife wanted him to do, the outcombe could have been even worse.. Mila may have lost both parents.
Rogan never stood a chance the odds were stacked against him, having been swept along with his wife's addiction cost him, Mila was taken from him... it wasn't looking good and a very sad time.
When Rogan started to put his plan into action, it was just the beginning of the lengths Rogan was prepared to go to... to get his daughter away from the grandparents and back in his arms, I felt very anxious from this moment and it only escalated.
Rogan had to put his trust in people, Steve who helped with false documentation and getting Mila back and then disposing of the car, all the time I was hoping the guy's intentions were legitimate and this was just for starters.
While Rogan and Mila were able to hide out at a different location it gave them and us a little reprieve but trouble and fear of being caught was never to far away and when Sadie showed up it certainly gave you plenty of concern.
By this time, despite what everyone else thought of Rogan we knew he was a good guy he just wanted to be there and do the right thing for Mila, be a good parent, thankfully he had the willpower to give up any addictions but I honestly thought he was going to be going down the same road with Sadie, again another worrying moment.

Rogan Marks, a struggling addict who realized it was time for him to grow up and kick his addiction into next week. He lost his wife to the same narcotics she got him addicted to, a little while later his lost custody of his daughter Mila to his in-laws who couldn't stand him.

Rogan did whatever it took to get his daughter out of his judgmental, arrogant in-laws' clutches. The love Rogan had for his daughter was the most pure, honest and unconventional love.

He made mistakes and learned from them, Rogan wanted better for his little angel. After the way his wife was raised, he was sure Mila was better off with him than with her maternal grandparents.

Starting over in a new city wasn't easy but for Mila, Rogan was willing to risk everything. With the help from some remarkable people and a young woman named Sadie, Rogan was able to keep Mila safe and loved.

Sadie Willman was on the run from her problems as well. As she and Rogan got to know each other, they admired each other's strength. There was an undeniable attraction between them but obstacles got in their way.

As they both overcame the hurdles, they realized that they were just what the other needed to heal their souls.

THE WRONG SIDE OF ROCK BOTTOM is a full length standalone novel by Jennifer Foor. This was different from Mrs Foor's other books, it was from Rogan's POV.

Drug addiction and abuse are things that happen in our society frequently. Jennifer Foor did a marvelous job. 5++++
5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, but not for the faint of heart... 17 Oct. 2016

WOW. The one will tug at your heartstrings. It is written so well, I can see the chaos unfolding even if I can't imagine living through this (or even wishing on my worst enemy). But this poor man has to live through it, as I'm sure other people do as well. Don't get me wrong, it isn't all sad, there is humor, suspense, passion, surprise, fear, paranoia! Will definitely give you the perspective from the bottom. And now a bit about the story...

Rogan and Etherly married young and have a two year old. They are getting by and seem happy, but that could be the drugs talking. Rogan had a job and supports his wife and daughter. Etherly is from the right side of the tracks and no longer speaks to her family. It was supposed to be only one more time. One last dance with the devil. The pills had Rogan feeling (or not) good, calm. But then Etherly pulled out the hard stuff. He pleaded with her not to do it... This is a great story about why "just one more time" may be once too many.

Favorite passage: “This place freaks me out, and you seem pretty harmless. I mean, I’ve never heard of a serial killer who brings a toddler along for sh!ts and giggles.”
4.0 out of 5 stars Very short story 21 Nov. 2016

This story had the potential to be really amazing, but it fell a little short of my expectations. It's a very quick read, it took me only an hour to read in one sitting, which left me disappointed.

I was raised to always obey the law, even if I didn't agree with the outcome. We live in a country where children fall through the cracks and what is considered just, is actually more detrimental to the child. Mila is caught in a power struggle after her mom overdoses and her dad is jailed for possessing drugs. Her maternal grandparents have it out for Rogan, and she's sent to live with them. There was something that happened to Mila's mom as she was growing up, the reader is never told what, we just know they're not good people for her to live with.

Rogan's parental rights are pretty much taken away, full guardenship is handed over to his dead wife's parents, and they're going to keep him from ever seeing his daughter again. Yeah, he made a mistake, but he was in the process of cleaning up his life. Because the grandparents are loaded, their lawyer beat the public defender Rogan was assigned. It goes to show you that the rich get what they want, even if they're not the right fit for a child.

So Rogan decides to kidnap his daughter and flee to Costa Rica. I'm not okay with taking the law into your own hands, even if you might be the better parent.

But I did like this book, even if the addiction part was hard to believe. If you're that addicted to drugs, you'd have withdrawals.....and Rogan never really went through withdrawals.
4.0 out of 5 stars Not your typical romance 15 Oct. 2016

This is a different type of story. It’s not about romance. It’s where Rogan has hit “rock bottom”. I have mixed feelings on this book. On one hand, I totally understand Rogan’s love for his daughter. I totally understand that he needs to do what he needs to do to have her in his life. However, that being said, I totally get the other side as well. I have seen drug addiction in my own family and how it devastates the entire family. It rips families apart. The drug abusers tend to not care about anyone but themselves. That is where I can cut Rogan some slack. Jenn shows us through her writing how Rogan struggles. She gives us his side. We understand how he came to be the Rogan that we see in chapter 1. We see how he feels, how he copes, how he ponders. He does care about his daughter. He does want her. He is not perfect. He knows he isn’t perfect. That is why I am so conflicted. Jenn did an awesome job of letting me see the real Rogan. Sometimes those of us who have been affected by people abusing drugs tend to see all drug abusers as bad guys or people who destroy families and only care about themselves. We see the negatives only. This book gives us an inside view of one of those people we tend to shun. Jenn Foor does an excellent job of leading the readers to understand his flaws. There isn’t anymore than I can say at this point. The book is told through Rogan’s point of view. No cliffhanger.

I received "Wrong Side of Rock Bottom" as an ARC for an honest review. This is a very intense read, it gives you insight into drug addiction & all the struggles drug addicts face on a daily basis, the affect it takes or can take on families of drug addiction. Rogan just wants to give his wife Etherly & their daughter Mila the world as they deserve, the only problem is Etherly & Rogan are addicted to drugs. Rogan wants to get clean & help Etherly get clean so they can raise their daughter together in a nice, normal home, they decide one more time then they're done but something goes wrong destroying their world. Rogan is now facing the hardest decision of his life, raise his daughter alone & live looking over his shoulder for the rest of his life. Sadie is running from the law when she meets Rogan & Mila at her abandoned/foreclosed home they are "squatting" in. Since Sadie wants to leave the country, she knows who Rogan is & that he's running from the law also, she decides to go with him & help him get across the border. Very different from anything I've ever read from Jennifer Foor but so worth reading!!!!
