My name is David P Perlmutter and I have a story to tell based on true events. There are moments in the story that I'm not proud of but also there are some that I am. You will have your own opinion of me, like some of the reviewers have stated in their reviews.
I don't normally read books like this but I am so glad I did. I could not put it down and I know that that line has been said so many times before but it is true. Again, this has been said over and over again but this story would make for a brilliant movie. I can see why this book has so many five star reviews and in my opinion, it deserves every one of them. Well done David! After everything you've been through you deserve a huge amount of credit for surviving to tell your tale.
This book is quite pleasantly written apart from the occasional error in the text. It is based on a true story, and I am glad that it is only BASED on a true story, because a lot of it seems to be made up. It is not particularly gripping as suggested in the title, despite being a 'sexed up' account of what actually happened to the author. Still, it is commendable that he has written a readable book and is selling it so cheaply on Amazon. The worst thing about it for me was the length, but that is a criticism I make of most top-rated Hollywood films, too. Everything these days needs editing. There were far too many unnecessary passages in this book that made the story drag on and on. I am not a fan of James Paterson, but he is very skilled in maintaining a fast pace in his work, so David Perlmutter and his editor might want to take a look.
If this book was fiction I would have given it five stars as I was completely absorbed, but it didn't ring true, especially (without giving too much away) where the author felt he had brought shame to his family because he had stolen some money as he was desperate but had supposedly heroically saved two lives, his family surely would have been very proud!? Also surely the people he saved would have come forward to tell the world what he had done, they both spoke to him and would have recognised him. Also would the journalist who paid for his bail, leave the passport in a place where it could be easily found by the accused. It was also supposedly all over the news and papers but no follow up, Just didn't add up.
A weak storyline & poorly written. Would not call this story gripping more like yawning. The main character (the author by all accounts) spends most of the first half discribing how many times he falls asleep or goes to a beach. It is impossible to engage with his character who seems to embark on random thoughtless actions which, if they really true, are difficult to comprehend or just a bit dull.
From the moment I started reading this book I was addicted. I loved the way you are slowly introduced to the back stage side of the tourist industry starting from the dizzying heights all the way down to the gutter. Towards the end I found my heart beating faster as I willed for David's safe return. This book is beautifully honest and I throughly enjoyed reading it. I had a huge lump in my throat at the end. Thank you David for sharing your wonderful story with the world.
enjoyed the story having lived in the same area of spain myself for many.years.I understand how something like this could happen, but what I dont understand is why the author thinks he has proven his innocense just by writing his story on paper.that proves nothing.
A well written but tedious story of a young man who spends his time drinking, sleeping and (when possible) partying despite having no money, making silly mistakes and facing the consequenced. Rather frustrating.
