Worlds of Possibility is a great value celebration of Domino- one of the key indie labels now celebrating their 10th Anniversary! As with the earlier compilation The Hits Hurt, the title stems from a Pastels song- Worlds of Possibility is typically sublime, the missing link between Felt & MBV (why are The Pastels not revered in the UK????). There have been some great samplers of late- the latest Loose one, At Least You Can Die with a Smile on Your Face (Bella Union),Infecting the Galaxy One Planet at a Time (Sub Pop)- but this is easily the best one: two packed CDS!!!!
A lot of the acts on here are inter-related: Sebadoh open with a classic song from Bakesale (Soul&Fire), as the other singer in Sebadoh who isn't Lou Barlow offers up a great track entitled Codes (Jason Loewenstein), as Lou Barlow offers up a track from side-project Folk Implosion from the brilliant One Part Lullaby (Free to Go)...Likewise ex-actor Will Oldham surfaces on Palace Music's More Brother Rides & Bonnie'Prince'Billy's The Way, as ex-Slint/The For Carnation/Zwan member David Pajo has played on Oldham's records and here offers a track from his Papa M moniker (Plastic Energy Man)...One of the most famous bands on Domino were Pavement (who offer the sublime Hexx from their great final album), who came out of Silver Jews (who offer Random Rules from their 98 album American Water); Pavement spin-offs here include Stephen Malkmus&The Jicks Us (from his latest album)& Preston School of Industry (aka Spiral Stairs)Whale Bones (gorgeous stuff, from All This Sound's Gas, which I rate over either of SM's solo albums!)...

it's very good value at this price, isn't it? I bought it and was very pleased. I liked u.n.p.o.c. enough to buy their album and i wasn't disappointed. I'll be getting more stuff from some of the other bands too. It's like a domino buyers' directory, this. Nice one.

I'd only heard of a handful of these quirky low-fi bands before buying this album, but I've just bought an album by Hood after being impressed by their song, and I'm sure I'll end up buying music by a lot of the other artists. For the price, it's both a bargain and a lucky break.

I've loved many of these bands for years great stuff, just have to point out that Sebadohs' soul and fire was off bubble and scrape and not Bakesale, sorry to be a geek but bubble and scrape is my fav Sebadoh lp and soul and fire their best song.
