The quality of the book is good but I am finding it hard going. I love reading about social history - how our ancestors really lived but this books is boring so far but I will persevere. Maybe it will get better.
This is an excellent and important book for understanding the background to English history and thus, where we English come from. It's not written in US self-help style, and it is not Mills and Boon, so yes, you do have to be a grown-up. It asks questions like 'Did the peasants really starve?' and gives answers that many might find surprising. That is a very good thing.
