However, while the Germans and what is going on on the Western Front is mentioned in passing and Zeppelins and mines are write large I can't recall any actually fighting beyond getting shot ant once or twice that Jack gets involved in. Basically this is a record of what I suspect was the lot of many large ship men both before and after Jutland (give or take the odd scrap the battle cruisers got involved in) and it's pretty boring!
In fairness Mr Warner does his best to position events and the numerous B&W (mostly good quality) photos are a welcome addition but there is no getting away from it that diary entry after diary entry stating 'no flying because of the weather' does not a page turner make. I did persevere, I though Jack deserved that, but boy did I find a lot of it tedious I'm sorry to say.
Monday - didn't fly today. Tuesday - didnt fly today, Wednesday - still didnt fly.Thursday - Person A flew and died, Friday didnt fly.
