Review

Bowen writes with compelling, brutal honesty. Ranging from heartbreakingly sad to laugh-out-loud funny, The World According To Bob is a life-affirming story of sheer human strength in the face of adversity. (Daily Express)

The second installment from one of north London's most loved double acts ... The long-awaited sequel picks up where the first book left off, telling the story of what happened to this odd couple of cool cats after their initial success. (Evening Standard)

Close proximity to animals does wonders for your mental health. Close proximity to this book will do wonders for it, too. (Daily Mail)

I haven't read the first book but this short biography/ autobiography of James (man) and Bob (cat) is an entertaining and in places moving read. Unfortunately we only have James' version of events - I suspect Bob's view would reveal points a human misses but James does the best he can to describe the cat's eye view from the outside. Anyone who has had a close relationship with a cat will sympathise and at times identify with both protagonists. In general the villains in this book are people who are petty and self important or desperate and the heroes those who view the world with open eyes and kindness. Bob is of course brilliant!

This book was raw, touching, humbling and honest. It gave me an understanding of how tough it must be, living life on the streets, and gave me an insight into this man's life and the huge change brought about by meeting Bob. It's an account of a life made better, more hopeful, by the chance (?) meeting of two souls in need of healing. I'll never walk past a Big Issue seller again without at least saying hello, acknowledging that they're doing their best to earn an honest living like the rest of us. Thank you, James and Bob.

I read 'A Street Cat Named Bob' in one sitting in April last year and was completely hooked. I've shared my 47-year life with cats (not owned - you never 'own' a cat) so I know how endearing, intelligent, independent yet therapeutic they can be. However, I have never met a cat anything like Bob.

Having enjoyed James' first book so much, I was delighted that a second one had been published but a little nervous that sequels can sometimes be disappointing. How wrong could I have been. This is even better. It's written with a lot more confidence, which James obviously is starting to have in himself and that is wonderful. Bob is still the amazing cat that will happily ride on public transport, walk around the city streets and fight off muggers yet still does cat things like bring in gifts of dead mice and live frogs.

I'm really starting to believe that there is 'Karma' but, in James' case, it may be backwards as what he and Bob are doing now for the Blue Cross and the homeless charities are the 'good deeds' that he initially thought he was rewarded for, but couldn't remember, was meeting Bob.

I'm a fan of 'The Big Issue' and my husband and I regularly buy from our local seller, yet I'm appalled at the treatment James received and reported in this book. The support you're still getting from him is honorable but get your act together!

I read a Street Cat called Bob last year and this book follows on from that ... It was good to see that things were turning out good for the pair of them.. it wasnt all plain sailing but things fall into place when you need help and Im great believer that things happen for reason. James was meant to meet up with Bob and Bob was meant for James at a time when they both needed somebody. James had struggled with his life and we dont know how Bob came to be on the streets but they needed somebody and found each other. This is a book I will read again .

Having read A Streetcat Named Bob, I just had to read about his further adventures and it was nice to see what happened after the whole book thing. Very thought provoking and Bob is indeed a very special cat!
