After having acquired this set at an astonishingly low price from a marketplace seller, I'm pleased to say that it is very good indeed. Kontrapunkt is a well-regarded label, generally speaking, and this 2-CD set is excellently played by the young artists. Importantly, the balance between the cello and piano is good (something that isn't always the case).
Beethoven pretty much invented this comnination of instruments, at least as performing equals, and the Kontrapunkt recording from 1997 is clear and dynamic. Good booklet notes are provided and I think that this set would provide an inexpensive modern recording complimentary to the historical sets from Pablo Casals and friends Beethoven-Cello Sonatas Nos 1-5; Minuet in G; Brahms-Cello Sonata No 2 and Pablo Casals plays the Beethoven Cello Sonatas which remain classics.
