The Georgian aristocracy of Britain were afire with the new style of building, being newly wealthy, and newly educated, they wanted their houses to show their classical taste. The Addam Brothers fulfilled those wishes and in doing so managed to design some of the most elegant country and town houses in Britain.
The book is a reproduction of the original books, combined into one. The text, as was common at the time, is separated from the plates being discussed, and there are a number of text features that take some time to get used to (like a curly 'f' instead of an 's'). It is, however, a wonderful evocation of days of elegance in British building and will enable the reader to look more deeply into the grand country houses of Britain and see more than just the surface.
It is a great book, and should be read by anyone with an interest in architecture or British Country Houses.
