Twenty projects using reclaimed timber, from a sun lounger on wheels to a Shaker barn style dog house. For novices as well as the more experienced.

The Bookseller

Whatever way you splice it, upcycling is the trend to try right now. Designer Mark griffith s sweet new tome, Woodworking for the Weekend is the perfect way to ease yourself into a crafty couple of days. It outlines 20 great DIy projects using reclaimed timber, and we love how do-able and affordable his ideas are no need for expensive equipment or hard-to-find wood.

Image Interiors Magazine

The projects themselves range from the fairly simple, such as the birdhouse feeder, to the more complex. There's a plant stand made out of an old ladder which is simpler than it looks and which could be very effective in the garden. My favourite is the shaker plank bench which you'll see on the cover. It's simple to make and versatile in that the size can be varied to suit your location and needs. It could be made in five hours - even if you doubled that for an absolute novice it's still not a vast investment of time for an interesting and useable piece of furniture. There are useful tips - such as collecting different planks for the seat to give a more interesting look and helpful advice for when you're working.
Pictures are good throughout the book with handy illustrations of things like the underside or back of a project - the angles which you so often struggle to visualise when you're offering a piece and it doesn't seem to fit. Working diagrams are line drawings and are clear. --The Bookbag.com

I can not speak highly enough of this book.

Highly original and beautifully written - each project is clearly laid out and easy to follow.

All the materials are easy to acquire and there are plenty of excellent tips that makes each project a joy to work on.

I have made several of the pieces of furniture and each has been successful. I particularly enjoyed making the Breezy Table which now sits proudly in our living room.

The illustrations of the projects and the photographs are of the highest quality.

I am sure that everyone that buys this book will rediscover the joy of woodworking.

I always wanted to make something from scratch but didn't know where to start. Plus, none of the woodworking books I found ever had anything in them I really wanted in my home. Finally a book full of pieces I would LoVe to have! I'm starting with the plant arbour and finding the instructions really helpful and easy follow. Fantastic book!

As the title suggests, I bought this as a gift for my brother; an inveterate DIYer who is often damning of other people's efforts and advice. It was his reaction that made me realise I was on to a winner. He's already earmarked at least three of the projects on his 'To Do before Christmas' list - I wouldn't be surprised to see the dog kennel adorning our garden on the morning of the 25th!

Each project is explained in clear language; a lack of jargon is something I always look for when buying a 'how to' book. That said, the author doesn't patronise the reader and the photographs/illustrations only add to the feeling that anybody with a tiny bit of skill could produce something of beauty; the sun lounger being a case in point.

I cannot recommend this book enough - a well deserved five stars!

The book is good, with nice ideas. If woodworking is your hobby, it's a must buy, but if want to step higher level, then you should look for something else. I give only 4 stars, and it basically because of the seller, as I ordered the book right in advance for a birthday, but it came later (much later) than the scheduled time. Little bit disappointed.

The pictures in this book were well done but when it comes to the ideas; they are simple, some require specialised tools while others are an unnecessary amount of work for a minimal amount of return. The best thing about this book is the fact that it inspires me that I could write a much better book with much better ideas.
