I have two of these; one for basting meats with juices or marinades, the other is
used for various home baking tasks.

I prefer pure bristles brushes with wooden handles, because the alternatives can
sometimes melt. I tend to give the bristles a gentle tug to remove any loose hairs
before using (this one had bristles that were held very securely).

I'd suggest that pastry brushes are not soaked for a prolonged period of time
because the water may start to dissolve the glue that attaches the bristles to the
handle, causing the bristles to fall out. I just wash the brush in soap and water
and rinse thoroughly under a running tap then leave the brush to dry with the
bristles facing down so the water drains away from the handle.

As mentioned earlier, I use two brushes to avoid flavour contamination between
the two main tasks.

A good brush and therefore recommended

I bought two of these brushes and have used them both on two or three occasions. The bristles are still coming out all over the food and I have had to spend time picking them off pastry, steaks etc. One expects this the first time of use but not thereafter. A disappointing product!

Difficult to get these now as they tend to be made of silicone. Picture shows 2, but there is only 1 - I knew this, but some may not.

After using for a while, realised that it's a big muckle (Scottish word!) and that it would be better a bit smaller.

these original brushes are being replaced by silicon types which are not as good,so order this type for one that will do the job correctly.

OK but bristles come out a bit too often - you end up picking them off the pastry....

Update: re-rated as "rubbish" (from 3 stars) as the "bristle issue" has got worse after being used maybe half a dozen times.

Brush is now unusable. (...amazing how many bristles it has left considering how many it has deposited on the food...)

Previous brush (which looked identical...) lasted maybe 20 years.

Cheap but useless. Avoid.

Folk are moaning that it sheds. That's to be expected isn't it?

Just brush it out on a hard surface and you'll soon shift what loose bristles there is.

Done.

The brush had loose bristles. It is smaller than a normal pastry brush. The handles is made of cheap unpolished pine. I used it once nad had to throw it away as the bristles fell out everywhere. I bought this to replace one I had for several years where the bristles began to fall out but the old one was better than the new one.

Decent enough little pastry brush, bristles don't all fall out. In my opinion the wooden brushes look a bit better than there plastic equivalents. The price is very reasonable and it arrived quickly and we'll packaged. It does feel a bit light in your hand.
