The main problem with live albums is the fact that, more often than not, they don't really add much to the original material, and are therefore destined to be a mere curio for the completist fan--rarely played, but an essential companion to the studio fare. Wonderlust is one of the rarer breed that actually adds something to the studio sound, taking the gentle, soft, well-produced sounds of the studio and giving them a rougher, more urgent sound. In a similar vein to The Corrs' MTV Unplugged, it breathes new life into the tracks, stripping away all the studio flourishes and bringing the vocals and instrumentation to the fore. Combining most of the best tracks from Oyster and Siren, including exquisite tracks like "Winterblue" and "London Rain", this is how folky pop was meant to be heard: raw and rootsy. --Helen Marquis

I am usually a bit wary of live albums, and normally prefer the quality and content of studio recorded albums. I think that live versions can sometimes sound a bit flat, lacking the effort that is manifest in studio albums, this album however, is an exception. Having first bought 'Oyster' and then 'Siren' I already had some firm favourites, some of which appear on 'Wonderlust'. Here, the anthemic 'Walk This World' and 'London Rain' are not too dissimilar from their studio counterparts. The album kicks off with the gorgeous 'Winterblue' accompanied by dramatic guitar sounds and a great harmonising backing vocal , it's beautiful and Heather sings asthough she means every word. 'Heart and Shoulder' is moving and sparked with feeling, 'Paper Cup' works much better on this album than on 'Siren' it's musical composition sounds more catchy. However, the usually achingly beautiful ballad 'Doubled Up' is a real disappointment, Heather sings it in a superficial way, and it does the song no justice, it also misses the spectacular musical arrangement that is so strong on 'Oyster'. I wasn't that fussed with 'I'm on Fire' either, but on the whole, this album is a good mixture of some of Heather's most popular and gifted songs.

I already had Siren and Oyster and was fairly sceptical about buying this, as in effect I already had most of the tracks. However I certainly haven't been disappointed. It has replaced those two albums in my playlist. If I had to recommend one of her albums, I would recommend this one.

It is a scandal that Heather Nova is so ignored by music critics, the industry and the media. I have nothing against the likes of Alanis Morisette, Macy Gray, Cheryl Crow and even Madonna - but none of them has the songwriting talent or voice (or looks!) of Heather Nova. If all it took was talent, then she would be up there with the greats.
So, if you love great songs, beautifully & evocatively sung, then buy this album. If you need convincing, then find a web site with 'Truth & Bone' in mpeg and listen. The only downside of your inevitable conversion is that you will have to wait patiently for Heather's next installment ... because she works v e r y slowly!

The CD is simply AMAZING. I was at the show where this was taped, and Heather blew everyone away. From her classics ("Walk This World") To her new ones ("Paper Cup"), this CD perfectly captures the essence of heather live. This CD is good for the new heather love to the old heather lover. Theres a sound for everyone. From the breathy ups and downs to the soothing sounds of lush melodies, this CD is undoubtably one of the BEST live CDs in this century! Rock on, Heather :)

Excellent live album of the excellent musician. In her intensity, her sensitivity and her joy in making experiments Heather Nova is only comparable with Lou Reed. She likes equally letting every song sound new again and again, which makes a live album especially interesting. Contains all of my favourite songs of the both of her first studio albums „Oyster" and „Siren". The final song is a mind-blowing version of „I'm On Fire" (by Bruce Springsteen). After my valuation of „Oyster" and „Siren", at least twelve stars should be adequate here.
