Product description

The extraordinary journey of Earth, Wind & Fire begins with Maurice White in Chicago in 1970 and continues through to this day. Along the way these musical giants took their unique blend of soul and jazz to the highest levels of creativity and pop success. In 1969 Maurice White founded The Salty Peppers ahead of relocation to Los Angels, California and a name change to Earth, Wind & Fire. Maurice re-configured the group in 1972 making the nucleus himself, his brother Verdine White, Philip Bailey, Larry Dunn, Al McKay, Ralph Johnson, and began building a horn section around Andrew Woolfolk, Don Myrick, Louis Satterfield, Rahmlee Davis, Michael Harris, and George Bohanon. These are the musicians who created a sound like no other and a style Maurice White would bring to other artists looking to share in its glory. He formed Kalimba Productions and it s music from those sessions that formed the idea for this collection songs, musical or vocal contributions, and productions by members of Earth Wind & Fire in the spirit of Earth, Wind & Fire outside of the group themselves.

excellent album of songs from singers and groups associated with the EWF years, if you like the style and the big brass backing then a lot of this will be for you

happy music!

This is a slightly different expansion cd. There is no doubting that 90% of the song are heavily influenced by the Earth, Wind and Fire sound which if you are one of the few that doesn't like their sound you could find annoying. However I am not one of those people, and found a great variance between modern soul, jazz, funk and even a bit of disco. If I have any criticism it is that some of the tracks are a bit raw for me. But with 20 tracks on this cd, there are still well over 10 brilliant tracks, and enough none well known songs that are not in my collection to make the cd good value. Perhaps not a cd that I will play over and over, but still a great cd to play now and then, with tracks that I can play regularly, so can recommend to most soul fans.

This is another interesting compilation, essential for lovers of the good groove. After their excellent Skip Scarborough collection this time the idea is Earth Wind and Fire associated gems. Like the Scarborough CD I had a couple of the songs already on vinyl but more that half were new to me. Few could dispute that EW&F were one of the top acts of the 70s and this is lovely selection of songs they were involved with on a production basis from artists such as Ronnie Laws, The Emotions and Chaka Khan. Quality stuff and recommended to those who want to dig deeper into the work of Maurice White and co.
