As much as I love Batman and Superman, I have to admit the greatest moment of their most recent cinematic outing was when Wonder Woman launched herself on screen into the middle of a crucial battle with the big bad. With this in mind I was very much looking forward to this. I was initially unsure about the casting of Gal Gadot but she's made the role her own. She plays the first half of the film with a spot on naivety, believing all of the evil in the world can be removed with the destruction of one being. As the film progresses she finds her place in the world and becomes the ass kicking Wonder Woman we've all been waiting to see. This is an origin story and is mostly set in the past, it's funny, charming and action packed. I hope the Wonder Woman Patty Jenkins has helped to bring to the big screen continues to breathe life into the DC Cinematic Universe.

Lots to like in this movie. First thing to like is the fact that DC obviously listened to the comments regarding bats v supes and made some changes to address some of the major gripes like a half sensible running time and a modicum of humor and less chat.
Gal Gadot is great in the title role playing the emotional stuff, the 'fish out of water' stuff and the kick-ass stuff all with equal aplomb. Hats off too to a great supporting cast, and I think the idea of having Diana work as part of a team rather than a lone warrior was a real stroke of genius- even if her team was mostly rubbish in battle. I even have to give grudging kudos to Chris Pine who is normally a bit smug for my liking but actually came across as very personable in his role as damsel in distress.
On this score- speaking as a man of the male persuasion-I was pleased to find the film wasn't too heavy when beating the feminist gong although even I had to groan at the whole- 'That's no mans land- no MAN can cross it!" line.
The wonder woman backstory and mythology, like most superhero backstories, is by definition a bit silly but the film handled the whole gods/amazons/hidden island thing briskly and suitably tongue in cheek enough not to matter and the whole movie careers along at a fairly relentless pace unlike other DC movies I could mention.
Other things I really liked about this movie:
WW's fighting- she has a unique style involving lots of sliding and spins that the director really gets to flatter with judicious slow mo
Patty Jenkins- as above. Great at the action, great at the nuanced stuff. Zack who?

Wonder woman is a breath of fresh air and a very welcome releaf to the DC universe. Its about bloody time someone came in and saved this mess with a colourful, funny and uplifting story of hope, love and downright female audacity. I loved young Diana and how feircly protected she was by her Aunt, and especially her Mother the Queen of the Amazonians. Diana is everyone's little baby (little handful for her mother too) and it was just so moving to see her mom try everything to protect her from a path that everyone knows she was destined to go down, until her aunt see's Diana air punch one day at the top of a hill and starts to show her the basics of combat in secret. Robyn Writes character "Antiope" was a big favourite of mine as she reminded me of myself a little bit, being an aunt myself all I want to do is turn my neices into little warriors too but just dont tell mom!

Diana's mother catches her training with one day and gives them both an ear full until Antiope hits back and reminds her why she needs to be ready and for what. The queen agrees to let her be trained only on the condition that she be trained to the the greatest warrior the island has ever seen. And so starts the destiny of this young woman, not a small child anymore but a fully grown Amazonian, trained by her feirce aunt to be an absolute machine, remember Diana is a DEMI GODDESS (daughter of Zeus) not just a mere warrior, she is no joke even without training. All that she needs now is be unleashed upon the enemy, but its not as simple as that in thei movie.

What I love so much about Diana's character is that she is a very black and white in her out look to the situations around her.

Very easily became my favourite superhero movie, which for anyone interested used to be the winter soldier (although it's a very close second now haha). The fight scenes were absolutely amazing and i am so in love with Diana as a character, she's beautiful inside and out and i think she's a great role model for girls. The film is fast paced and informative about her background, and there's a clear character development plot. Yes it's a little cheesy but that just adds to the charm, it's also realistic in the way that women were treated, and beautiful in that it allows diana to be a multifaceted character. I'm 23 now, but this is the film i would have died for when i was a teen girl, I'm so glad it's finally here.
