I have previously had a Fitbit, but found the product hideous to wear- everyone knew that it was a fitness tracker and I wanted something more attractive and normal looking (I want to track my steps but not shout about it). I finally settled on this model, I wouldn't have spent this much on a fitness tracker, but I would on a watch, and I did manage to buy it for less than the RRP.

The tracker looks very good on my wrist, the size would be good on men or women (but then again I hate over sized male watches). I do like the simplicity of the Withings app, but I do wish it was available on ipads as well. The activity tracker I have found to be fairly accurate, the sleep tracker less so, but it gives me a rough idea and does encourage me to try and get more sleep which I am sure is good for me.

You can measure your pulse by placing your index finger on your smartphones camera. I am not sure how accurate this is, but I have found it to be reassuringly consistent. I expect that this gives just you a rough idea of your pulse.

The step target is adjustable and the clever 0-100% display means that you can see how near to are to achieving your goal. I get regular emails about my weekly progress, which is nice. The watch does not keep time perfectly- it gradually gets out of time by a few degrees, and every couple of weeks I have to spend 30 seconds resetting the time on the app.

I must be a light sleeper as I have had no issues with sleeping through the alarm- one of my main issues with the watch is that you can't switch off the alarm once it goes off and you just have to wait it out, you can't even adjust the number of buzzes it makes.

I've owned the Activite (not the Pop, the original one) for around a year now and I still love it. A word of caution though - this is not a fitness tracker for the super serious sportsman - this is a device for the health conscious 40-something who just wants to make sure they are active enough whilst wearing something that doesn't look like "wearable tech". This is an analogue smartwatch, and it's good.

I've always had a problem with fitness tracker devices because of the way they look. I used to have a Suunto Ambit. That was a great piece of kit, but it wasn't really practical for daily wear - it was far too large and it needed charging every day. I also find those smaller fitness trackers (Withings Ox Pulse, Fitbit etc) just a bit ugly. This bit of wearable tech is designed to be as unobtrusive as possible whilst looking great, and trust me it does look great - Withings have done a fantastic job of making this thing look and feel like a quality Swiss watch.

What does it do? Well, first off the battery lasts 8 months. That is despite the fact that it is constantly and seamlessly in contact with your phone, downloading data. I'll say that again. 8 months. Most fitness trackers last a few days at most. It is genuinely incredible especially considering it's only powered by one standard watch battery which you can replace yourself. I'm only on my second battery.

Second, forget the activity tracking, this thing monitors your sleep. If you wear it at night, it will tell you exactly how well or badly you've slept. I'm approaching my mid forties and this thing picks up every time I wake up for a pee.

I really had high hopes for this watch and unfortunately I am only "OK" with it. Its not great and its not terrible either. It's a fairly expensive choice compared to the Pop version, and to me that is part of the problem, It's left me feeling a bit short changed to start off with :-), Then we have technical and design issues.

Lets start with the good things, to me the watch looks good, it has decent quality and the build seems good. The range of functions it offers suits me (I would not be interested in getting text messages or email etc on my watch but on that tracks health and looks decent was really what I wanted). The watch was easy to set up and getting it talking to the smartphone app was seamless as well. You can configure your daily walking target and it tracks it when your out walking (and it does drive you to walk more!, which is it's biggest benefit). I really like that there is not external buttons on the watch, nothing digging in to your skin, perfect solution and should be made available on more watches. The sleep tracking function is good and interesting to monitor

Then the bad ones, the leather strap started falling apart pretty quickly (and I can't find a way to buy that one on its own), the "tap the glass" function is flawed at best of times (works when you don't want it to work and vice versa). Three times the watch has stopped sending data over to the smartphone app and there is no easy way to get it working again (known error apparently, and you have to do a long re-discover process and data was lost each time, now I have given up...
