French Craft. Swiss Made.
Crafted by a team of prestigious Parisian designers, Withings collaborated with the Haas tanneries to develop a unique leather watchstrap, naturally tanned, and without the use of any chemicals.
Using the Connected Movement TM, Activité is certified for its precision and long lasting accuracy. Entirely Swiss-made, Activité is made with high-end Swiss materials including unbreakable, scratchproof sapphire glass, 316L stainless steel watch case, and dial designed in Le Locle village, an area know as the center of Swiss watchmaking.
Automatic Activity Tracking
Activité automatically tracks all activity, including walks, runs, swims, and sleep and syncs all data to your smartphone via Bluetooth. The tachometer-inspired subdial tracks progress versus daily goal.
Activité automatically detects swimming, so you can track and analyze your water workouts in the Health Mate app. It is water resistant up to 50 meters.
Activité comes with an extra silicone watchband for sports activities. Thanks to quick release spring bars, it is easy to interchange your watchband straps.
Sleep Tracking with Silent Alarm
Activité automatically detects sleep, and recognises sleep patterns including light and deep sleep cycles, sleep interruptions, and the total duration of sleep. Set a silent alarm in the app to start your day with a gentle wake-up vibration.
No Charging Needed
No need for any cables or dock - Activité operates on a standard button cell watch battery to provide up to 8 months of battery life. No charging means you never miss a step!
Visualize Trends & Data

The tracker looks very good on my wrist, the size would be good on men or women (but then again I hate over sized male watches). I do like the simplicity of the Withings app, but I do wish it was available on ipads as well. The activity tracker I have found to be fairly accurate, the sleep tracker less so, but it gives me a rough idea and does encourage me to try and get more sleep which I am sure is good for me.
You can measure your pulse by placing your index finger on your smartphones camera. I am not sure how accurate this is, but I have found it to be reassuringly consistent. I expect that this gives just you a rough idea of your pulse.
The step target is adjustable and the clever 0-100% display means that you can see how near to are to achieving your goal. I get regular emails about my weekly progress, which is nice. The watch does not keep time perfectly- it gradually gets out of time by a few degrees, and every couple of weeks I have to spend 30 seconds resetting the time on the app.
I must be a light sleeper as I have had no issues with sleeping through the alarm- one of my main issues with the watch is that you can't switch off the alarm once it goes off and you just have to wait it out, you can't even adjust the number of buzzes it makes.
I have had the watch for a few months, and have had no issues with the battery, though it seems to be easy and cheap enough to change. I have not bothered to change the straps ever from the original leather ones and I normally just take the watch off when I go in the shower. I have found it easy to check the alarm but you need you need to keep your wrist still for a few seconds before tapping twice on the screen.
This watch has quickly become part of my daily life and hope it will last for years to come. I welcome any questions.
HOWEVER !!!!! In the last 6 weeks, I have had to calibrate every 2 weeks as it gets about 10minutes fast. I emailed withings customer service regarding this, and they were very fast in getting back to me. They first suggested it was a calibration issue. However when it kept on happening within a week, thye then suggested the battery was low (I would have personally expected to get slower not faster).
Yes, that's right - less than five months of battery!!! I'm supposed to be happy with that! I have not had a chance to replace the battery as yet. I shall update this review after I have done so - is it the battery (in that case terrible battery life), or is it an issue with the watch? Watch this space (pardon the punn !)
I've always had a problem with fitness tracker devices because of the way they look. I used to have a Suunto Ambit. That was a great piece of kit, but it wasn't really practical for daily wear - it was far too large and it needed charging every day. I also find those smaller fitness trackers (Withings Ox Pulse, Fitbit etc) just a bit ugly. This bit of wearable tech is designed to be as unobtrusive as possible whilst looking great, and trust me it does look great - Withings have done a fantastic job of making this thing look and feel like a quality Swiss watch.
What does it do? Well, first off the battery lasts 8 months. That is despite the fact that it is constantly and seamlessly in contact with your phone, downloading data. I'll say that again. 8 months. Most fitness trackers last a few days at most. It is genuinely incredible especially considering it's only powered by one standard watch battery which you can replace yourself. I'm only on my second battery.
Second, forget the activity tracking, this thing monitors your sleep. If you wear it at night, it will tell you exactly how well or badly you've slept. I'm approaching my mid forties and this thing picks up every time I wake up for a pee. More importantly, it can tell you whether or not you've had good quality REM sleep or whether you've been a bit fitful - I'm presuming is does this by monitoring how you move during the night but I can tell you it's pretty accurate (ok you may get a few nights where it doesn't work properly but I'd say for me that's less than once every couple of weeks and it's usually after I've been down the pub). You get a great graphical analysis in the Withings app. What use is this? I Well, I can now tell from the app what helps me to sleep and what doesn't (hint - expensive divorce = less sleep). What I have found is that by changing a few things, I'm getting better quality rest and waking up feeling *much* better.
Third, the activity gauge is probably the best smart wearable invention to date. It's unobtrusive and it sits in the watchface with at guide that starts at 0 and finishes at 100. At midnight the watch resets itself (which is in itself cool). As you move during the day, the dial moves. Hit 100 and you've hit you're target for the day. By default it's set to 10,000 daily steps but that goal is easily configurable in the app so you know just how lazy or active you've been without doing anything more than look at your watch. Brilliant. It's like a constant (but not too intrusive) reminder that maybe you need to get off your backside and move around more.
Fourth, it knows what activity you're doing - walking, running or swimming. Not that I run. Or swim. But I do walk the dogs a lot. And it is horribly accurate in terms of it's footstep count. It can't work out if you're going uphill because it has no GPS etc, but it will faithfully count every step you take.
A few more points.
Withings customer service is excellent. My calfskin strap lasted about 12 months because I used it 24 hours a day for 12 months (you get 2 straps - an expensive leather one and an exercise plastic type one, but I liked the leather one). They replaced it free of charge even though I told them it had worn out rather than being faulty.
You control the watch through the Withings app on your smartphone. The app is not for the serious fitness nut, but the more Withings connected devices you connect to it the more useful it is. I have the Withings smart body analyzer (excellent), the Activite (excellent), Aura, (good but too expensive) and blood pressure monitor (I've not had an issue with it). They all integrate seamlessly.
Finally, if you don't want to spend as much as the original Activite costs, just buy the Pop version. It's the same size, does the same stuff, comes in more colours but is about 1/3 the price. The big differences are the strap (you don't get a leather one), the glass (it's not sapphire crystal) and the movement (Activite is Swiss, Pop is Chinese). Apart from that, they do the same thing.
