what i rearly like it looks like a classic watch i personally liked the grey colour
which i bought
I have extensively tested it over the last 4 weeks, swimming, running and walking so this review is based on a lot of experience in a short time. Without rambling on for ages it's difficult to summarise in a few sentences, but I'll give it a go. Bottom line is that it simply doesn't do what it advertises as things stand. It's unreliable, inaccurate and incredibly frustrating at times. Anyone who says otherwise simply hasn't used it enough to make a judgement.
I'll give a few examples. When I first started swimming with it it recorded 2 swim sessions out of 8. Each session was identical. After a break of a few days it recorded 6 out of 7 with pretty accurate timings (length of swim is all you get with the software at present). When it picks up a swim it throws the step count out hugely for the day. The watch might say 9000, but the software says 7500, for example. Hopefully the Beta software will get better, but it's advertised as being able to monitor swimming and won't reliably.
The sleep function whilst interesting (and fairly accurate) when it gets it right is also deeply flawed. It will record well one night and then completely lose it the next. One night I was in bed around 8 hours and the software told me I had slept for 25 hours.........Another night it recorded just a couple of hours instead of seven.
The step count is pretty accurate for me. I have checked it against an actual count and it's usually slightly under, but not enough to worry me. It is unable to distinguish between running and walking so if you want it as a runner forget it for now.
It also gets confused over days. I had a three day period when it wouldn't transfer any data because the software insisted that it was three days in the future. Unless Withings have invented a time machine.......It was a little disconcerting to see that I had walked 11000 steps already, three days in the future.
In summary you simply can't rely on this watch as a helpful tool to keep any sort of activity record. It's o.k. day to day, when it works, but the data collected over any length of time is meaningless because of the constant errors.
It gets two stars because it's a nice looking watch and certainly seems robust. It's been swimming with me a lot at various depths and it's absolutely fine. At the price I paid it's not much more than a decent Swatch and looks better. Time keeping has been absolutely fine and I've only had a few minor problems with syncing with the iPhone. The one thing it does do is push you to exercise. I already exercised a lot anyway, but the activity counter has a habit of forcing you to do that little bit more. For someone who is looking to improve their activity levels that little dial is a constant reminder that nags at you. That is the main reason for the 2 stars I've given it. The silent alarm is excellent and has never failed to wake me.
As it stands I certainly wouldn't pay £100 plus for it until Withings put some serious effort into improving the software. It's is not yet capable of doing what it is advertised to do.
Another edit after 2 years ownership. It's been ok. As i said in the intial review it's not that accurate in the step count, but pretty good and enough to keep a record and push you to do more. Compared with the Fitbit we also bought it's much better. Glass scratched very easily about 6 months in and too expensive to replace. However a huge issue has arisen since the Withings App changed to a Nokia one. After two years of flawless timekeeping it now loses 2-3 minutes a day, despite a battery replacement. It's got to be the app change and it's a complete pain to have to re-sync it every couple of days. As it stands now i can't recommend it at all.
UPDATE: So the person that received this as a present had to stop using watches for a while and now that she can use them again she wanted to use this one. No jewellery or watch shop in the whole town will accept changing the battery as it seems to be impossible to seal it back again. Investigating further it seems that this is a design flaw.
No we're stuck with either a dead watch or one we can't really use as we wanted to.
This is extremely disappointing and it feels like a very expensive watch for only about 8 months use. I would not recommend buying it after learning this.
