I first read this book when I was a child, and the illustrations fascinated and scared me in equal measure. Now I'm adding the book to my collection for nostalgic reasons. It's not only fun to read, with lots of humor, clever ideas and detailed illustrations, but it also has some witchy recipes, knitting-patterns and party-ideas you can actually use. If you have a child that loves to read, or if you are the witchy type yourself, you will love this book.

A blast from the past for me, I used to flip through this book all the time with my sister, who's no longer with us. Good memories, good to have it back with me.

Format: Paperback
The Witch's handbook is a simply delicious piece, acting as a fictitious guide for the beginning witch or warlock. Through an inventive series of illustrations, text blocks, recipes, and indexes, a humorous collection is created of "do"s and "don't"s for the magical novice. Though written primarily for children, this fantastic book delights readers of all ages alike. A must for the lovers of the unusual.

HASH(0x952e3f18) out of 5 stars Great ^_^ 10 Jan. 2004

I love this book!
Funny, quite well researched, some good recipies, some decent knitting patterns (in a book for children.. quite unusual, I know), not to mention the cute cartoon witches! Some of the information in the book is hidden (like the jar of bent pins in the 'witches beware' page.. which is a precaution against harmful magic, sending it straight back to the person who cast the spell without any affect to the inhabitants of the house) and the only fault in the book is that it seems to stick with the idea that witches are all evil.. I still love the book though!

The Witch's Handbook is a wonderfully fantastic fictitious piece, assembling bits and pieces of witchcraft-related information in the forms of illustrations, activities, recipees, and magic-know how indexes. Though it was written to appeal to children, its jovial approach of mock sincerity will be appreciated by readers of all ages. A truly fabulous book.

This is a great children's book with really funny color and b/w illustrations. The illustrations are throughout the whole book which is always a plus. They have fun things in here like "useful herbs", "knitting patterns" for a skull cap, "halloween fun", "picking furniture". It's all really cute and not meant to be taken seriously. The witches are all portrayed as ugly old hags but that goes along with the fun.
