"It's Been Three Years Since I Was Forced To Use My Powers!"...

WITCHCRAFT 4: THE VIRGIN HEART (1992) opens w/ a young, romantic couple, named Peter and Nora, parked out in the middle of nowhere. Wouldn't you know it? Tragic horror ensues. The young man is knocked out, and his girlfriend is abducted. Obviously, something eeevil is taking place. The cops have decided that Peter is their best suspect. Have no fear, private investigator / warlock, Will Spanner (Charles Solomon) is on the case! Along w/ Peter's sister, Spanner is running down leads and looking for clues, which send him in the direction of a club called COVEN. This is a rough place. How rough? It's filled w/ industrial smog, and the bartender wears nothing but suspenders, and waders pulled up to his man nipples! Now, that's rough! Thank heavens, a dancer called Belladonna (Julie Strain!!) takes the stage! It's not long before her clothing dissolves into memory. From here on, we realize that this is Ms.Strain's movie, for our heads are filled w/ nothing else! Fans of this amazon warrior goddess rejoice! She's really good in this movie. While I could easily watch her standing mute, for hours, she proves herself to be more than the sum of her magnificent parts! Belladonna runs around w/ wader-man and the guy who kidnapped Nora. Spanner delves into her dark world, becoming increasingly involved in her life. In a scene that resembles one from BLUE VELVET, Belladonna is even... victimized! Julie Strain followers may find this unthinkable, wondering why she doesn't just pull out a sword and behead the guy or something! Mostly a mystery / detective story, people expecting a straightforward occult film, will probably hate this one. Also, anyone figuring it will be a non-stop, Julie Strain-naked-extravaganza, will likewise be disappointed. Don't get me wrong, there is flesh on display at times, but there's a somewhat long-winded story as well. Alas, for a movie called WITCHCRAFT 4, it seems strange to save 99.8% of the supernatural stuff for the final 20 minutes! This would have been much better if: A)- The supernatural aspect was dialed up.. B)- The "hard boiled' detective story took a backseat. C)- The running time was cut by about 15-20 minutes. Still, it's worth a watch, if only for Julie Strain...

There's a scene with two of the cast walking away while being filmed with a telephoto lens with what sounds like a camera mounted mic. All you can hear, for the most part, is the crunching of the grass as they walk away, with voices projected in an opposite direction to the mic; they turn around and you can hear their voices much better. Why is it that these idiots do the sound, adding music later that way over-powers the dialog? Oh, and lets put a lot of reverb on a demon's voice so that you can be sure, with all the other poor sound attibutes, you wouldn't be able to understand a word. The T&A pulled this one out of the crap pile for me.
