Bought this on recommendation in a bid to get my 3-year old off her Disney Princess fixation. Delighted to say that this, together with Tiger Who Came to Tea and Mog the Forgetful Cat, have finally worked and made bedtime a much more pleasant reading experience for both of us. Witch with an Itch is a funny, mischievous story and a joy to read out loud.

My boys are a little outside the target age range for this book now, so I read it with a group of KS1 children. They adored it and so did I. It's a spellbinding (ahem) story told in quirky rhyming couplets. It follows a mischievous little witch (I loved her huffing and puffing and funny 'swear' words like 'Bats'!) straight out of witch school whose magic keeps going wrong. Try as she might she cannot turn newts and toads and spiders into other things, and like so many children she blames her equipment. The illustrations are gorgeous - the characters' faces are so expressive - and the story is pacey, imaginative and fun, with a subtle message about not hurting others threaded through it. So good I screamed 'Bats!' when we finished it.

Brilliant book! My son loved it so much he insisted on taking it to nursery to share with his friends. Really easy to read out loud, great bouncy rhyme for kids to follow, a bit of a twist to the story, and fantastic drawings too.

This is up there with The Snail And The Whale and The Tiger Who Came to Tea as one of our all-time favorite children's books! My daughters and I love the rhyming text, the gorgeous illustrations and the impatient but ultimately kind little witch. Wonderful to find another book that we can read time and again without getting bored!!

Delightful, rhythmic writing that utterly charmed my daughter. She loved finishing the verse at the end of the lines and her mother adored the irrepressible, slightly stroppy but ultimately kind witch! Even her older sisters (aged 14 and 12) have enjoyed reading this repeatedly. We wholeheartedly recommend it.

I am an English Teacher in an English school in Paris. We read this to the children last week and they totally loved it. We are going to read them Rudey's Windy Christmas soon and know it will be a winner. We can't wait for more from this Author!!!!
