On her death bed, Fallon’s wife, Hope, asked her husband to grant her three wishes. To be happy, to move on and to find someone else. Heartbroken, Fallon doesn't think he will ever be able to fulfil those wishes. Three years on, he's still playing the waiting game. Waiting to come face to face with his wife’s killer, he’s out for revenge and he’s going to make sure he gets it.
Katie is sent by her boss, who’s married to Fallon’s cousin, to get some documents from him and that’s how they meet. He finds her knocked out aboard his boat. The attraction is instant; chemistry is there. She makes Fallon feel things he never thought he would again, but he’s trying not to feel. Even though Katie is determined to rescue him from himself, he fights every step of the way not to fall for her. She sees the man he is underneath the pain, grief and guilt. Then comes the twist — a secret revealed that could destroy Fallon all over again.
I really enjoyed this book. The prologue will have you in tears before you even get to chapter one, so have plenty of tissues handy! I loved Katie’s character as she’s strong, independent and determined to make Fallon love, live and feel again. Fallon is a sexy, brooding, and grievingly closed off man who is hell-bent on making the culprit pay for shattering his life. Not feeling, living, and just surviving, Katie reawakens all those things in him. They were perfect together with some loving tender moments, as well as the sex scenes which were hot and steamy while not being too graphic. There’s also another character that stole the show. A twelve year old called Twig seems to be Fallon’s only friend! She added some humour amongst the drama, and I totally connected with the characters. I loved this story so much that I read the entire book in one go!!! I can’t wait for the next book in this fab series.
I have Kelly Gendrons Lucky Numbers (Trouble Maker #3) and had started to read it but put it down for some reason that I forget, well I’m thinking that was probably a mistake as Lost Wishes was a really good read for me. I’m definitely going to go back and tuck into it again. So for me really this is my first outing with Kelly, not my last either. I really didn’t think that I missed much of the story going in at this point which is always a good attribute when reading a standalone from a series.
“The man before me portrays death, forbids life. And me, I’m alive and breathing. In fact, I’m panting.”
Lost Wishes starts with an extremely sad prologue, you know…one of those ones that have you reaching for the tissues before the story has even started, and it’s an instant hook. We then venture into the story of Fallon, the dark “I don’t give a sh*t guy who is brooding over the loss of his wife. And Kate, who insists she lacks a certain amount of empathy to enable her to get a job done when it comes to Fallon. It’s a long struggle for both but with each step they take I found I was falling right along with them. When an author introduces a non-adult character it always brings a different dimension to a story and here I think Kelly got it oh so right. When a young girl tells an adult just how it’s going to be and that piece of advice feels quit grown up, you find the emotional involvement becomes a lot more.
“For a second, I feel like that raindrop slowly evaporating into her.”
Like I said, I enjoyed this. I liked the writing style, didn’t feel too immature, packed enough emotion into it to keep the reader asking for more and housed a great storyline that was intriguing and held a few twists and turns.Read more ›
The story for Lost Wishes centres around Fallon O'Connor, a brooding, mystery of a man and Katie Rustle, a seemingly fire cracker of a woman. We learn very early on that Fallon has been left destroyed following the death of his wife and is simply dragging himself though life with one goal in mind....revenge for the death of his wife. Katie, is sent by her boss (Fallon's cousin-in-law) to retrieve some legal documents from his boat, of course, she fails in her attempt but it's the catalyst for their meeting.
Fallon's history and heartache was really well written and pulled on the heartstrings from page one. When he meets Katie, their attraction and sexual chemistry is palpable but of course, Fallon fights it for as long as he can. Katie, was just the right woman for him, having not had a great relationship with her father, she had developed a steely persona that didn't wither under Fallon's reluctance to let go emotionally.
Lost Wishes is a somewhat gritty and emotional read, but the character of Twiggs, a 12 year old friend of Fallon's really steals the show and it's her character that really injects the much needed touch of humour. I dare anyone not to fall in love with this character and boy the scenes between her Fallon, are simply put as "sigh" and "swoon".
While I was enjoying Lost Wishes as I was reading I didn't feel there was anything particularly new about the story but then I was blown away by a twist that I really did not see coming and it just lifted the story to that next level.Read more ›
