And I am absolutely gutted these books are over with!
I thought I loved Will and Maggie, to the point I didn't want to carry on but then I meet Cally! Damn these two have even more chemistry than Maggie or even their past encounter as teenagers. With secrets looming at the sidelines threatening to overspill at any moment and Cally being completely unwilling to open up about about her past away from Will or even explain why she made the decisions she did this makes for a highly tense and emotional read. I was completely drawn in to the story and wanted to stay in New Hope as long as possible. What struck me the most was Cally's relationships with her sisters, Drew and Gabby, and just how far she was willing to go keep them safe and put a roof over their heads as well as food on the table, even if it was only a little. Their sisterly bond sang off the page and made me feel almost as protective of the three of them.
This story is one of hope and magic, even when it shines through the darkest situations and even when it's not instant and it has to be worked for.
I really loved this series and look forward to reading more from Lexi in the future.
I fell in love with Will the minute he was introduced, in fact, I fell in love with Cally just as much. Life hadn't been easy for her, and at that pivotal moment in a teen's life, she was uprooted and just had to accept that things were never really going to be the same again. She was a sweet character and I had to wonder what is was that she'd done to make her return to New Hope so foreboding. When what had happened all those years before came to light, I still had to wonder why Cally had turned away from Will so suddenly, and the more the story progressed, them more my heart broke for her. Not only had she lost the love of her life, but she'd been forced to lead a life she never would have chosen had there been another way to protect her sisters.
As I've already mentioned, I fell in love with Will immediately, but the more I got to know him, the deeper in love I fell. He was just so charming and caring, and even after everything that had transpired between him and Cally previously, he followed his heart and gave her a second chance. He even went out of his way to help her family, and he didn't do it to "buy" her. He did it because that was the amazing man he was.
Of course, no great romance can ever run smoothly, so when Cally's past comes a knocking all hell breaks loose and she is forced to reveal her deepest, darkest secret. Brandon - Argh!Read more ›
Seven years after their relationship ended and Cally moved away with her mum to Las Vegas. She has returned to New Hope after the death of her Mother to get her two younger sisters settled in with their unusual father.
The first person she runs into is no other than her first love William.
Everything about her says SEX. And MINE.~Will
What has happened to her over the past seven years?
"She may not longer be the girl I once loved, but she is the women I want"~Will
After seeing Cally and the attraction between the two burns brighter than a super nova, William is once again enchanted by her presence and he wants her back in his life.
This book is beyond beautiful pain and beauty twisted together perfectly.
As I write this review, I am unable to stop the tears steaming down my cheeks. This story touched me deeply, the emotions poured from the pages. One of the subject matter dealt with in this story hit close to home. It reminded me that sometimes life can be extremely painful and situations can be forced upon you by means of desperation, manipulation and fear.
When certain things fall upon your shoulders you just have to do what you have to do. Some of those decisions will leave life long scars but not everyone is given the rainbow and unicorns experience.
I have to commend Lexi Ryan for writing such a raw and gritty story filled with beautifully painful emotions.
The book is written from both Cally and Williams POV. Everything from writing to flow to the transitions of POV and Flash backs are stunningly perfect.Read more ›
