- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 April 2011As my original white wireless controller had been keeping me going for just over 3 years, it was a bit worse for wear. The main problem was that the sticks would not re-centre, they would just get stuck in their last position. The rechargeable batteries I had been using were also dying so I found that a wired controller would be ideal for my needs.
This controller was a great deal, just £17.99 at the time of my purchase, which would be cheaper than me having to buy a new wireless and batteries or a Play & Charge Kit. With a 2.7m cable, it it more than enough for how far I am going to need. It also comes with a break off point that stops you from pulling the Xbox or PC off the surface it is put on. It uses a standard USB connection.
It features the new shiny Xbox Guide button, and the glossy black panel where the headset connects. However, it still features the standard D-pad, not the twisting one you get with new consoles, but as I have gotten used to how the old one works, it isn't really a problem for me.
An interesting feature that I noticed was that Microsoft have used 6 normal cross-headed screws to hold this controller together, rather than the fiddly Torx screws on my old one. This means that it should be much easier to take apart for cleaning or respraying with a new colour, but I have not tried this yet, so I can't comment on the success of doing this.
In conclusion, a great product that feels well built, solid and does its job well.
UPDATE:
As of 15/06/12 it still works fine, with all games like Gears 3, MW2, Halo Reach, Forza 3, Fallout 3, Geometry Wars 2, Trials Evolution, Assassin's Creed franchise etc. Have also been using it a bit on PC with the Arkham series of Batman games and also with Dirt 3. Although these are all Games for Windows games you would expect the controller to work with them, and it does fine. No additional drivers needed to be installed, game just recognised it and had all the buttons mapped out already. Still 5*
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 June 2014OK for anyone out there reading this, I am a very decent halo player (CSR 50) and thought I could do with buying a new controller seeing as my old ones had lasted a good couple years and were starting to break.
What you need to understand about this controller is that it works great, but that the material it's made of is like a non-stick teflon frying pan! The thumbsticks are really shallow and are slippery as hell! Its like trying to play with a controller covered in grease.
The only things on the thumbsticks are some little dots that are supposedly supposed to offer grip but they do nothing.
Please heed my words and buy some rubber covers for the thumbsticks and maybe a rubber cover for the whole controller.
The actual controller is genuine and works great but it is so slippery you will find your aim slips to one side when you are trying to do precise movements... it is hell
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 November 2012This review is from the point of a controller-phobic PC gamer.
I am one of those people who has shied away from owning a console because I have never really got on with game controllers, and it's my main reason for sticking with the PC as a gaming platform.
I didn't mind the PS1 controller, and I bought a Gravis Gamepad back in the day (about 12 years ago) and it was a pain. Put me right off using a controller on my PC. Over time I have developed an aversion to game controllers, never really getting on with them and longing for my mouse/keyboard back.
Eventually a friend convinced me to take the plunge, if I ever want to own a console I need to get over myself with controllers and if I didn't fancy a console, why not try out an x-box 360 controller at £20? And he went on about how much controllers have moved on and how the x-box 360 controller is the best one he's ever used.
I have to say it's the best £20 I have spent in a while. Plug it into your PC and download the software from the Microsoft website. Nothing to set up afterwards (although it's worth just calibrating it to make sure I don't think you really need to). Games I have tried on it on the PC that are available on xbox 360 just work, you can even switch from controller to keyboard/mouse halfway through a game should you want to, it just auto senses which you are using. Don't bother with the "PC version", I believe it contains software on a disc that you can just download anyway, you are just paying extra for a CD you don't need.
In all honesty, you can't beat the sheer accuracy of a mouse, aiming is trickier with a controller, but it has a good stab at it, much better than other controllers I have tried. Where the controller beats the keyboard/mouse setup is the variety and position of all the buttons, triggers, analog joysticks etc mean it's much better than using a keyboard and it's much better than using the buttons on a mouse. Overall it's won me over and prized me away from keyboard/mouse for gaming. If you are an RTS lover, I wouldn't bother but for other games, give it a try.
It really is a great controller and for the PC it just works with so many games supporting it automatically. It also costs £15 less than the Gravis Gamepad I bought 12 years ago.
If you want a game controller for your pc, there is no point buying anything else (except possibly the wireless version!)

PierluigiReviewed in Italy on 15 June 20175.0 out of 5 stars Qualità a colpo sicuro

Stefan StossbergerReviewed in Germany on 20 December 20115.0 out of 5 stars DER Controller für Rennspiele auf der PS 3

epsyonReviewed in Spain on 31 August 20135.0 out of 5 stars Un must have para gamers
