I have been watching Wire In The Blood since it started and just love it. Robson Green plays Tony Hill to perfection and I am gutted that it's not being made any more. The only saving grace is that I can now own the whole lot and watch it whenever I want. The fact that the USA episode is in this too makes it all the more perfect.

This is a must see for anyone who enjoys their dramas griity. It throws more red herrings at you than a trawlerman can catch. It can be complex, witty and downrigt grotesque in a matter of minutes. It's not for the feint hearted and can be quite ghraphic in it's imagery and plot line.
Robson Green plays Tony Hill a totally disfunctional and socially inept psycologist to perfection.
If you enjoyed Cracker and Messiah Wire in the Blood takes it to another level. It's a real shame that no more progaammes have been made because this is television drama at it's best

The complete 6 series was a pleasure to watch, even though i had already seen some of the episodes. Probably the best series on TV!

I really enjoyed seeing the whole series again, but why oh why could the subtitles not be included? The shows are only a few years old and were shown on mainstream TV, so surely must have had subtitles originally. It's just lazy on the part of the distributor not to include them on this box set.

I am hard of hearing and depend on subtitles when watching anything with a plot you have to follow. Disappointing on that score but still an excellent drama.

I am not a hearing handicapped myself, but I think it would at least have been fair to add an (English) subtitle option to this DVD issue. Such an extra is being supplied by most TV serials DVD issues today! Actually, it would be a great help to non-English watchers as well, who, even though they may speak the language, they cannot always understand all the words in very fast dialogues, especially if the sound mix is not ideal.

I didn't watch Wire in the Blood when it first came out - I think I missed a couple of the early ones and didn't realise that the episodes were self-contained so didn't want to come in halfway through the story... I've recently watched a couple of the re-runs and was so impressed that I bought the DVD set. I can't believe that ITV axed such a good series! It's not just the storylines which are great (although some of the original books by Val McDermid are pretty stomach-turning) it's the screenplays, the sets, the camera work, the supporting cast - all really good quality. It almost goes without saying that the actors who play the two main characters, Robson Green and Simone Lahbib, are excellent, thoroughly believable in their roles.

Unlike many DVDs I've bought, I know I'll re-watch the episodes again. There's so much more depth to them than your average run-of-the-mill police procedural TV show. I wish that ITV would commission more episodes as Val McDermid writes more books in the series. Any chance?

A bargain indeed for fans of the genre. 33 hours of viewing + bonuses. All 6 seasons + a 2008 episode set in Texas.

Bradfield in NE England clearly has more than its fair share of serial killers, enough to keep quirky psychologist Dr. Tony Hill busy for 23 gruesome cases. His skills involve being able to identify with killers and victims - he entering their minds, often disturbingly. Police grow increasingly to rely on him. Romantic undercurrents exist between him and CI Carol Jordan (Hermione Norris). Less so with Carol's successor Alex Fielding (Simone Lahbib), she struggling to do her job without neglecting son Ben.

Robson Green is excellent as Tony Hill (perhaps at times overplaying the eccentricities). He welcomes the move from "light and fluffy" roles (his words in one of the interesting bonus interviews). Nothing "light and fluffy" here! His character is constantly in danger, twice suspected of murder, several times lucky to escape with his life.

Not all is perfect. Tony's college link only occasionally convinces. In fact most of the time it is never even alluded to. Sometimes pretentiousness seems to masquerade as style with the camera work. A few cases are ludicrous, not standing up to close examination. (Judge's head on a platter, anyone?) Even these, though, are eminently watchable. Many viewers may regret the pre-credit spoilers, which - amongst other things - destroy the opportunity to reflect on what has just been seen.

For the most part the series does very well what it sets out to do. Throughout there is much that deliberately unsettles - especially in Seasons 5&6 with their marked upping of gore and erotic content.

Recommended to those who like to view what is dark and challenging.

Wire in the Blood is a brilliant series with some brutal, plus some scary episodes, and Robson Green is brilliant as Doctor Hill.

But my huge negative is the box-set, it is just awful, plus the discs are hard to know what series they are, plus they have shoved discs on top of each other, so after time the discs will get scratched plus they keep falling out. All in all a wonderful series but sadly a awful box-set.
