I would recommend doing a winter skills course in addition, as my husband did when we moved to the Lake District, but for someone who wants a bit more information, this is invaluable, and is making the transition to mountain rescue somewhat easier. Don't be put of by the Mountain Leader Training part - it is full of good information for anyone.
Covers anything from gear, to walking techniques and more advanced climbing techniques.
Worth the money IMO and easy to understand too, unlike some of the books out there!
