Product Description

Winsor & Newton founders, Henry Newton and William Winsor were involved with the artists of their time - J.M.W Turner for example - and to this day. They have built the reputation on the quality and reliability of the products, combined with continual product development, improvement and innovation. However, while keeping true to the principles laid down by William Winsor and Henry Newton in the 1800’s actively embrace enhanced ideas and technologies. These heavy weight paper sketch books are suitable for pencil, pen and ink and light water colour washes. Book looks smart, paper is smooth and fairly durable - ink doesnt run through and I found can take ~5 layers of watercolour before the surface begins to suffer.

I've found the pages falling out extremely easily (from the root, not the perforations) - I'm left handed, so my left hand rests on the previous pages which, and the glue that binds the pages to the book fails, rather than the paper bend.

While the book format looks far better and takes up less space than a wirebound book, I'll not be going for a casebound pad from Winsor and Newton again.

The sketch book arrived even earlier than I expected it! In the beginning I was scared to order a sketch book on Internet as I can't see properly if the type of paper is the one I'm looking for (pencil drawing) but looking at the gsm of the paper it was the highest I had.

When the book arrived I started drawing in it and WOW, it's an amazing quality paper for a really cheap price! I'm in love with my new sketch book! I guess now my boyfriend is a bit jealous as I spend most of my time with my book than with him but hey!

I highly recommend this sketch book by the way :)

At this price and this quality you can't help but fall in love with this product. If you are looking for a good quality art book that is sure to last, then this is it. It will protect you drawings, and is very good quality. Thick hard back, and I would definately reccomend this product. I got two, and they both came very quickly.

Very good! I like the perforated pages - in case when my drawing reminds me of my lack of talent I can easily remove the evidence! All pages stay intact - it is not falling apart. And the price is really good too!

I've bought many of these. They're great for ink drawing as the ink doesn't bleed through to the other side of the paper as easily as on some other sketchbooks.

The cover is clean, black, smart and sturdy.

However the binding is totally unreliable. Half of them will quickly start shedding pages from the inside of the binding along the spine.

They use a double-sided tape method to fix pages down and it would appear that the factory gets it wrong a lot of the time.

If you get a good one (it could happen!) it's a lovely book that will serve you well...

If you get a bad one, you'll know after you've used a few pages. The lining paper splits from the spine, pages split apart and your book is lost unless you keep taping up the pages at regular intervals.

The problem is the binding method, not the perforations. That should be made clear. The perforations are a nice feature, they just happen to be on paper that's likely to fall out of the binding, that's all.

If it falls apart you'll have to tape it up fast and mind don't let your tears of frustration fall all over the page and spoil your artwork.

This would be the perfect sketchbook if it didn't have tear out page perforations. I am using the sketch book for the work I need to do for my fine art degree. As part of the assessment criteria we have to fill a sketchbook leaving no white paper. Therefore every page, front and back has to be used. As a result I have found that the pages have started to tear out along the perforation lines, especially if I have stuck images/photo copies into the book. Other than that, this is a really nice quality sketch book.

Super hard back sketch book, with good paper. However, it does have perforated pages which I thought would not be a problem for me. Now the book is in use, I would rather it didn't have the perforations as I don't want the pages to start tearing out on their own.

Good quality paper, but each page falls out as you turn the page. When I mean each page falls out, I mean EVERY SINGLE PAGE falls out. So far I'm half way through the book and EVERY page has fallen out therefore I have to find a way to bind the pages together myself. I brought if for my university degree, because it's arty I can get away with binding the pages in a really cool creative way. But if my university wasn't as lean as they are I would have had to buy a new book all together which is madness, for the price you pay for this book too, you would expect amazing quality. I'm not sure if that's just my view because I'm a student and pretty broke, but I think for the amount I have spent on this book and for every page to fall out, is really not on.
