How to Play
Mix all 144 tiles and place them face down in the middle of the table. This is called the BUNCH.
For games of two to four players, take 21 tiles each from the BUNCH; five to six players take 15 each; and seven to eight players take 11. Keep all tiles face down.
Any one player calls out SPLIT and the race begins! Everyone simultaneously flips over their own tiles and as quickly as they can makes a connecting word grid.
You can make words horizontally or vertically so that they read left to right or top to bottom. You can rearrange your grid as many times as you like.
Call out PEEL when using your last tile and take a new one from the BUNCH, all other players must take a new tile too.
If you get stuck with a tricky letter call out DUMP and return the tile face down in the BUNCH but you must take three new tiles in exchange. You can DUMP as many times as you like.
Once the BUNCH is empty, the first player to use all their tiles shouts BANANAS and wins the hand... Unless their grid has misspelled or incorrect words.
If any incorrect words are found then that player becomes a ROTTEN BANANA and is OUT OF THAT HAND. They replace their letters face down in the BUNCH and game continues for the remaining players.
More ways to play
Want to try some different variations? Banana Smoothie is a much easier game: you can’t PEEL or DUMP – it’s simply the first player to use all their tiles wins. Then Banana Café is ideal for cafés and restaurants: the usual rules apply but you’re not allowed to PEEL. Or challenge yourself with Bananalone: take 21 tiles from the BUNCH and play BANANAGRAMS as usual but you can’t DUMP.
Create your own games by limiting the acceptable words to a specific category or theme such as animals, food, drink etc…. Or really challenge everyone by not allowing two or three letter words! What will you come up with?
Small portable pouch
The Bananagrams game comes in a banana-shaped pouch with a zip, making it easy to open and to tidy up once you are done playing. The Bananagrams pouch is small and portable making it the perfect game to play on the go.

The game itself is fantastic ideal for I'd say 6 yrs onwards, great in a group! Will be taking on holiday for years to come !
Really fun game to play. Have not played with small children, but for young adults and upwards everyone can learn a lot from each other, there is bound to be words that one isn't familiar with.
As I'm not a tournament player, it's fun to bend the rules depending on who is playing. For example, if you know you have lots of time you can up the minimum word length to 5! (which can be tricky). Traditional Scrabble players will be in their element, if unmoved by the lack of a board.
I was introduced to this game by a cousin, and I brought straight away.
This game is good for two people up to around 6. It can be fun for all ages as children can make smaller words if required as no points are needed to win a round.
We have also used this to help children to spell and understand words better.
I would recommend this game to anyone
There are variations to play from 1 player games through to larger groups of 8. Games themselves can be quite short (matter of minutes) but invariably you'll want to play a lot of games in a single session and add the scores as you go.
I've played this with family, friends, tour groups and work colleagues. The latest purchase was for a secret santa, where it was highly prized!
