I normally love this author, but this tale left me cold. It felt like not much more than two busy people hooking up on schedule, every two weeks, for hot sex, before going their separate ways.

They were brought together by friends, seemingly fell in lust and into bed, but it felt cold and clinical. The author's usual romantic sex scenes were missing, and though this book seemed like one extended sex scene, it left me untouched - I didn't feel at all that the characters were emotionally involved. I mean, they never exchanged even mobile numbers or email addresses, and just assumed that the other would be there on the due date.

I didn't believe in the far too convenient ending, nor in the allegedly meaningful discussion that they had at the end, nor that they seemingly had a future together. Neither of them appeared to be emotionally wounded/challenged, or betrayed by past lovers, nor did either of them seem to be workaholics, so I didn't get their aloofness and detachment.

Overall, it had a tale, it was well-written, but it was stone cold - and that included the sex.

Tina has been friends’ with Kate for years; it started with a simple game of chess. Now Kate insists she come to her and her husband Ray’s monthly games weekends they have started. A fun way let lose, have some laughs, play some games and meet new people. Once there she meets one very interesting person. A man who clearly loves games, whether for sport, computer or in life. A healthy contest is what starts this cat and mouse game they have started. Its almost like it was foreplay because once they get down to it they are more than matched in every way.

Shaun saw in Tina that she needed to be challenge and boy was he up for the task. The things they have got up to over the past few months are starting to make him rethink his perimeters of what he really wants. It’s not just the sex but the way they are around each other that makes him think he wants to have something more but with a job offer to take him away for months he’s not sure how to brooch the subject. He set the rules that they only meet at these weekend events and have no contact outside them. He needs to think fast and be honest to be able to get what he wants. Seems Tina might be one step ahead though and is pushing him to admit what is really happening between them. Here’s hoping the games continue for them but that both sides win in the end.

...another great short story. I disagree with the reviewer who said this tale was cold and lacked emotion. If anything I found this tale a bit soppy in places, as the characters wrestled with their feelings for each other. I have to admit however, that whilst the tale was engaging, the ending was not very credible.

Downloaded this one at first as it was a freebie...loved every bit of it! Great sense of fun and adventure! Would've loved for it to be a longer book as Tina and Shaun are very likeable characters...maybe the next one can be about their adventures in Switzerland!?! ♥♥
