How to use: take some coloring gel with a toothpick and wipe it off on your piece of fondant. Knead until you get a homogeneous result. To obtain a darker or deeper color put some more coloring gel on your fondant. If you want to obtain a marbled result, don't knead for too long. Wash your hands with warm water and soap directly after the kneading.

The only negative really it that you need to use an implement (tooth pick works best), and it can be a bit of a hassle avoiding cross contamination. You either need to apply the colour somewhere clean before mixing it into your icing, or use a clean tooth pick each time you want to add more colour - otherwise you will end up with icing in your colour paste. For this reason I now prefer liquid gels as they are more hygienic - you probably can't be as exacting though, so I guess it depends on the job you are doing.
