I saw the video of Hold-On and had to buy the album, I was not to be disappointed. Wilson Phillips have produced an album that shows three beautiful girls performing songs from a full spectrum of emotions at high quality.
Wilson Phillips have pressure on them being the daughters of famous singing parents, but they have so much talent that they shine.
There are 3 women with 3 distinctive sining styles which come together to make a wonderful album.
The highlight for me is Impulsive, lead by Wendy this is a beautiful, strong song.
On the whole album the melodies and harmonies are so strong and distictive.
The album leaves you with a feeling of 3 girls who put their heart and soul into making beautiful music and wanting the listners to have enjoyment and also become close to them without feeling sorry for anyone.

This was the first tape I owned, I can remember listening to it over and over when I was younger and still to this day I find myself reaching for this album which I now have on CD. Their voices mix so well to produce some amazing songs that you will never get tired of. I would have to say that there is not one song which I do not like. Songs like "Eyes like twins" and of course "Hold on" make it a truly wonderful album which I would recommend to anyone.

It's worth knowing that the titular Wilsons are the daughters of Brian Wilson (of The Beach Boys) and Phillips' parents are John and Michel Phillips (of The Mamas and the Papas). A fine musical heritage to be sure. This was their 1990 debut album, from which came various hits, not least "Hold On", which knocked Madonna's "Vogue" off the top spot, and helped them become the most successful female band ever, at that time, taking the title from The Supremes. In all, five singles came from this album, all but one of them reaching number one in the US chart. That said, WP never really made an impact in the UK, with their first single peaking at number six, and later singles barely charting at all. One can blame lack of publicity or airplay, but I've never met anyone who didn't really like this album once they got to hear it.

The album is worth the nominations, awards, and every bit of praise heaped upon it. There really isn't a bad song on it. On the contrary, they are of uniformally high quality, with wonderful sing-along harmonics and strong lyrics in both rock numbers and ballads. The sound is upbeat and commercial, resting somewhere between rock and pop.

Their later albums never matched this strong beginning, in my view, which is a pity. Their 2010 Christmas cover of "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day" demonstrates the depths to which WP has sunk creatively. Nevertheless, after more than 20 years, their debut album still sounds fresh and surprisingly original. I return to it often, and I would replace it immediately if I lost it. If you are new to WP, the obvious thing is to buy a "Best Of" album, but I wouldn't do that; I'd buy this album. I say that because just about all their best original material is here.

With the parental pedigree of these girls it was always to be expected that they could do the job and they do it exceptionally well. Perfect harmony, good band, and superb tracks to demonstrate it. Easy listening and with a quality that surely is ageless.

This album really is a gem. I got it, as I wanted the song "Hold On" but was I surprised! Each song is brilliant and meaningful! I can't believe this album is this good! The CD hasn't had a break since I got it!

Why we never heard more of Wilson Phillips in this country I will never know. Excellent Melodies, Beautiful Songs, Just makes you feel good and that is what music is all about. I have this album on LP and just had to have it on CD so I could easily load it on to my Brennan JB7 (if you haven't got one---Get One!) and have had it constantly playing in my car since I bought it 3/4 weeks ago. Wilson Phillips is just music at it's very best, 3 talented, beautiful women with perfect harmonies. A must have album, don't even think about it just buy it.

famous parents gave them a head start...brian wilson and john phillips! but the girls provided they were not living on the names of the parents!

first single "hold on" took the charts by storm not just in the uk but around the globe! the follow up releases "release me" "impulsive" and "youre in love" may not have set the singles charts alive but it it does not diminish from the quality!

its very easy on the ear..southern california style!

"hold on" a great track that took the girls too the top....9/10

"release me" just as good but didnt follow up the chart potential 8/10

"impulsive" was the 3rd single and again failed its ok 8/10

"next to you" should have been a single - you are hooked in from the start with the layered vocals 10/10

"youre in love" was released as the 4th single and it utterly beautiful...lyrically vocally and produced to perfection 10/10

"over and over" was the b-side of hold on and has the strenght to stand alone as a single...like a lot of the album it deals with lost love and looking forward to a brighter future 9/10

"a reason to believe" is a great track....a cover..yes..but with great conviction 9/10

"ooh youre gold" is a bit of a low point..a bit too country..sounds false! 5/10

"eyes like twins" is a big song that stands out from the rest of the album....haunting vocals...a great track 9/10

"the dream is still alive" is another cover and is possibly the poorest song on a great - outstanding album!

all great songs...great vocals...great production a great album that has stood the test of time
