Book Description

The third sensational book in the utterly hilarious and fantastically original WILMA TENDERFOOT series, by award-winning TV comedy actress and scriptwriter Emma Kennedy.

About the Author

Emma Kennedy studied English at Oxford, but it was there that she fell into Comedy - writing and performing in university sketches and taking a disastrous show to the Edinburgh Fringe. Emma then started work in television, appearing on programmes such as The Big Squeeze with Mel & Sue and Loose Women, and writing for things like Late Lunch, and Radio 4 and 5. Her awards are too numerous to count (the Comedy Lounge Best Actress Award; Sony Awards for her Radio writing), and she’s been in an Utterly Butterly advert. Since then her writing and acting highlights have been: My Family, Big Brother’s Little Brother, Goodness Gracious Me, Tracy Beaker and Katy Brand's Big Ass Show.

Emma's hilarious holiday memoir (for adults), The Tent the Bucket and Me was published with great success. Emma’s extensive comedy training, however, has all been building to this pinnacle – the writing of children’s books!

I bought this to read to my 6 year old son at bedtime (getting fed up with 'boy' books and thought this would be the next best thing!). We weren't disappointed. Wilma is a likeable little girl, and her adventure in this book was exciting, quite scary in parts, funny, and..... well, adventurous!! My little boy loved it - I think there is just enough 'gore' to keep a little boy enthralled - and we have bought the next two adventures to read.

Young Adult fiction is a genre that has been growing over the last few years. Unable to utilise swear words that so many adult titles seemt rely upon, the author find inventive ways to not only get their point across but to thrill and enrapture the reader.

One series that utilises this to the maximum is the Wilma Tenderfoot adventures, there's a character for everyone, from an enthusiastic hard to control heroine right through to the rascal sidekick dog, Pickles. It is a reader's dream with each case not only aiding Wilma in her quest to become a detective but furthers her search to find out about her own past.

Add to this great dialogue, some wonderful twisty scenarios and an arch villain who always gets his comeuppance and Young Adult Fiction really has a few treats in store.

Thirteen year old girl laughed all the way through it and couldn't put it down. She devoured the entire series and loved them all. Maybe not as 'edgy' as some modern books but not all thirteen year olds want to read about boy bands. She's a huge Sherlock Holmes fan, so this was a nice modern detective alternative. She loved the fact that it featured a 'girl' detective. Delivered very promptly.

Purchased for my 7 year old daughter but these books are loved by my 10 year old son as well as both myself & my husband. A perfect blend of comedy & mystery. Only downside is there are only four books in the series. We can't wait to read 'The Rascal's Revenge' but what will we do after that!
