Product Description

Product Description

The Kinsman Giant Bee Nester has a carcass made from rice husk and bamboo and has no plastic in its construction. It offers an extensive collection of nesting tubes (63) and is specifically designed for solitary bees including Mason Bees and Leafcutter Bees. The product provides up to 360 potential bee cells. The nester can be fixed with a drainage pipe clamp or doubled rope against a wall fence or tree. However when fixing, it should be securely attached to ensure movement is minimized. Siting: Fix in a visible warm place sheltered from rain, ideally orientated to face between southeast and south and to catch some sun. Height should be between 1- 2 meters high, (max 3 meters) and it is helpful to have soil nearby to assist the bees in cell production, and food sources such as flowers, orchards and fruit.

Box Contains

1 x Bee Nester
60 x Bee Tubes

This was recommended to me by a friend who has a 2 acre wildlife garden. Within days I had red mason bees filling up the tubes! They have now all disappeared but now the leafcutter and woolcarder bees are starting to fill up the remaining tubes. Highly recommended!

This solitary bee nester is a simple way to encourage beneficial pollinating bees to your garden. You simply hang the nester in a sunny sheltered spot in your garden and as long as you have a few flowers to attract them the bees will come! The first year I had this only a few tubes got filled but on year 2 every one was filled.

You then overwinter the nester and tubes in a cool dry place (mine goes in our unheated garage) then in about March/April, when it gets warmer and the risk of overnight frosts is past, you hang it up outside again.

Its exciting to see your bees start to tunnel their way out and fly off to get pollen. They return to the tubes (I presume it's the same bees?) to lay their own eggs and start the cycle again. Its a great way to get kids interested in wildlife, although it's not instant gratification!

This bee nest is sturdy and robust. I've just put it into the garden (April). And I'll see how it performs after a British summer. I don't anticipate any problems.

An excellent product. Comes with a strap, to attach to a suitable anchor point, if you wish to do that. Personally, I place them straight into a bee house.

Perhaps not as Giant as you might expect, but well made.
I purchased this too late to use this year but ready to go next spring time.
