Product Description

Product Description

ASTRONAUTS is the game that takes you to the edge of the solar system. Race your opponents to explore the planets and moons of our solar system and then return safely back to Earth. Explore Mars, the moons of Jupiter, Saturn’s rings, Neptune, the Kuiper Belt and more as you slingshot your way from planet to planet and use your booster rocket and hyperspace to speed your safe return. The further out you go the more points you get but the more difficult it becomes to return, so beware getting stuck in Deep Outer Space. Avoid the Asteroids, beware of the Black Hole, watch out for the Wormhole and survive the Super Nova, whilst you try not to get stuck in the grip of Jupiter’s massive gravity. The excitement builds as the lead changes with each returning mission and the game is often won or lost on the final go. No two games are ever the same in this clever game that you will want to play again and again.

Box Contains

20 x planet cards
9 x moon cards
3 x dwarf planet cards
8 x return to earth cards
16 x special cards

We bought this game for Christmas and it was a big hit with all the family.

Players have to travel on missions in the solar system, visiting planets and moons, and then get safely back to Earth.

Clearly-written rules on 1 sheet of A4 make it easy to learn the game. There is also a lighter version of the game, recommended for younger players and beginners to help teach them the basics. This helps the kids to pick up the game more quickly - but the game is most fun when you include all the Power cards.

The Power cards (Black Hole, Super Nova, Hyperspace etc) are great fun and can really help to change the game to your advantage - it's a good game to teach the kids how to play strategically. It's all about playing the right card at the right time, and there are lots of twists and turns so that you're still not sure who is going to win until the last go.

The facts on the cards are an added bonus and are great for teaching space trivia, but they do not affect the game. The game does not require any existing knowledge of space, so it's very inclusive, and all ages can play and enjoy, even if have no pre-existing knowledge of space.

The cards are nicely designed, are good quality, and the game is an ideal size to take on holiday. All in all, a good value, fun, educational, inclusive family game - I would definitely recommend it.

Essentially, this is a light, family card game that has a combined card and dice mechanic and that we have enjoyed playing - from adults to 7 year old (and five year old if you count just helping out with the dice rolls!). The combined card and dice mechanic means it's heavily luck based, but with a bit of stategy and push your luck thrown in.

The aim is to score points for making a return rocket trip to earth taking in planets and moons of planets in the solar system. These are represented by cards that you take from the draw pile. You start with five cards and each turn you take a card from the top of the draw pile and then play or discard a card. Playing a planet/moon card means visiting it in your rocket (and scoring points if you successfully return).

You must travel out from the nearer to the further planets in order (skipping as many as you like) and you can only visit moons of a planet once you've visited that planet. Most planets have two or three associated moons/dwarf planets (except Mercury and Venus). The further planets score more points (up to 5 each) than the inner planets (2 points), but it's more difficult to make the return journey (you need to roll the equivalent number or higher on the dice to make a successful return trip, once you've played a return to earth card). You can make as many journeys as you like in a round, but you only score if you successfully return by playing a return to earth card and rolling high enough on the dice (if you fail, you just try again on each successive turn without doing anything else until you succeed).

Great family game, takes a little while to get the hang of but once you do it's so much fun. Suitable for older children and adults and no previous space knowledge required. Handy little box so great for taking on holiday with you.
Idea is to go out into space and discover as much as possible (must be in order e.g you can't go to Jupiter and then back to Earth) without getting stuck, or having another player use a card against you that could lead to you having to go home empty handed. The idea is to gain as many points as you dare by landing on planets and their moons and then using a return to earth card in order to bank those points. You can only keep the points collected once you have returned safely to Earth.
Very addictive and great fun.

On first opening this game I was not impressed... For a start, for the money, you do not get much; a pack of very ‘thin’ game cards, and a very ordinary cheap die – however; do not be fooled by this into thinking this will be a rubbish game – it’s great! It took a while for us to pick it up though, but then this was mostly down to the fact they went a very long way around explaining what are really some very simple rules (totally unnecessary) and also re-printing most of what it already says on most of the cards themselves, and so this was not only needless to say the least, but made the whole thing sound so much more complicated than it actually is; it’s likely to confuse a lot of people, or lead them to believe this is a WAY too complicated game for them to learn, when in fact it’s easy! Like most simple games – they’re often the very best – and this is no exception!

A great addictive and interesting game; exciting and completely absorbing we found, and even more so if you like your space or sci-fi themes. Just can’t think why it costs more than ten quid for so little... It boasts of being made in the UK – I guess this is why we’re not making that much – and selling even less... : – { Compare this to lots of other games available for just a fiver with LOADS more components and materials used – and it just doesn't make any sense at all expect sheer greed... No excuses. (and what’s with the over-sized box when we’re being charged for carrier bags to save the planet!???)

FABULOUS game though!
