I had really high hopes for this book, the swan fairy-tale isn't one authors tend to use, instead going for the 'obvious' ones so I was excited to read this. I'd like to say that it lived up to my expectations, and it did. I think it was written really well and the story was engaging... but at the same time something felt a bit lacking. I think it was the romance that let it down. There were two love interests but by the time we find out about them they've both been in love with her for years already so there isn't any build up; this isn't helped by the fact Elise ignores them both until the end.
My big hate for this book is that there are two alternative endings. It really annoys me that we get a choice because it spoiled the dynamic of the story. I hate love triangles but I think its a total cop-out to have one but not solve it! If you don't want to have to deal with angry readers because the heroine got with the wrong guy don't write a love triangle in the first place! I dropped a star after what had been a really enjoyable read because of this, it led me to end the book feeling rather sour. (I actually only read the ending for Falk as he was my choice because a book should only have one ending!)
Aside from this it was a good book and I like the world its set in. I enjoyed being able to learn about another kingdom while still getting nods to acknowledge that it's the same world as Beauty and the Beast. I think I preferred that story more than this as the plot was a tad basic and bland at points in this but I would recommend it.
