It was second hand, the reseller failed to mention the glossy pages were stuck together. The book is good sadly the vender let the sale down
The format that has been adopted by the authors is to have one large section with all the plates, arranged taxonomically, followed by a text section with brief notes on each species (and a few sub-species not illustrated) sequenced by plate for easy cross-reference. The text icludes a brief description of structure, habitats and distribution.
The book gives no peripheral information other than this, so will need to be used in conjunction with other books if more than mere identification is required.
There is only one English name given for each plant, which may not be that adopted by another author, so for cross-reference, the Latin names must be used.
No keys are provided for ease of searching by colour or structure since the book makes no pretence of being a field guide. Consequently searching for an unidentified plant can be a laborious affair, especially for those unfamiliar with the sequence used in the book or those unable to ascribe a specimen to a family.
No attempt is made to give any scientific information or details of pollination method, diseases and primary pests that may afflict a plant, uses through history or interaction with other flora.
In summation then, the book is simply a large format reference or "coffee table" book with a clarity and accuracy of illustration and conciseness of text which make it a pleasure either to browse or to use as the final arbiter when identification is in doubt.
