Product Description

Product Description

Oscar winner John Madden (Prime Suspect, Shakespeare in Love) directs Annabelle Apsion (Shameless) and David Morrissey (Red Riding) in this disturbing, compelling drama which tells the story of a woman coming to terms with the trauma of being married to a mass-murderer. Drawing on a remarkable pool of talent that includes Ted Childs executive producer of Inspector Morse and Lewis and multi-award-winning screenwriter Jeremy Brock (The Last King of Scotland), The Widowmaker earned a BAFTA nomination for Best Single Drama in 1991.

Kathy arrives home to find her house surrounded by police and reporters; she is then told that her husband has been arrested for a series of murders in the local community. How could she have loved a man capable of committing such crimes? Why hadn't she recognised the signs of the madness that was developing? Did she, in any way, provoke his actions? While coping with press intrusion, police questioning and her shocked family and friends, Kathy is haunted by the past in her harrowing search for the truth.

Finally the powers that be have released this 1991 treasure from the vaults and about time too.The stars in this movie or TV drama have gone on to bigger and better things since its initial making and once only showing on the I.T.V.Network. The one thing I will say is don't be put off by the title Widowmaker as although it does deal with what we now call Rage or Spree killings you don't really see any shocking violence only the after affects of one mans rage on his neighbours. The real story is about he wifes reaction to what she is being told by her office workmates and the police and the news reporters and indeed her own family. Taking her little boy home from school she begins to see the grim reality she now has to face and the tough questioning from polise and reporters and the film then goes into regular flashbacks revealing her own story and that of her husband as their relationship grew. This was filmed entirely on Location in Redditch in the West Midlands and the police vehicles and the Police Station were all real locations including her office where she worked and all places are still in the same use today. The centre of Redditch was closed for a couple of weekends to film the chase sequences as was the park where the helicopter scenes were shot and I am glad to say that none of the locals were hurt in the making of this movie. For myself i can only say how glad i was that they used a professional cast who were equally believeable in there various roles and even though Alun Armstrong (New Tricks) has only a small part as her father it made it all the more enjoyable for me. As far as reccommendations go I am probably biased but I think this movie is first rate and has lost none of its impact so go on and order a copy you won't be dissappointed.....

Great film, but I am somewhat biased as I'm in it! Armed officer with dodgy rash who looks like he should be in short trousers.......

I thought this film would be very interesting but half way through I lost interest, the plot was good but not true in today's world, I wouldn't have thought that all the local people would turn against the wife after all it was none of her doing. Even her own family were very unkind. The acting was good that was why I have given it 2 stars. Overall I was very disappointed in the film.maisie
