I love anything that's glamorous and full of secrets so this was right down my Boulevard!
Martin Mckenzie is a powerful man with a dastardly plan to get revenge on an old flame and a journalist whilst having a bit of fun in the process.
No spoliers, what happens on pleasure island stays on pleasure island.
Wicked Wives is full of Witty one liners and a newer, harsher writing style that may be crass to some, but in this day and age is as refreshing as an ice cold glass of rosé on a summer day! Anna-Lou Weatherley has a way with words like the m&s food adverts. You know the ones, sexy, tantalising and exotic. Her descriptions are so thorough and faultless it makes the pages erupt and come alive. This book has a slap in your face opening prologue that continues slapping throughout every chapter. It's not even funny how much eye opening drama there is. It's like, Slap-murder. Slap-secrets. Slap-botched up cosmetic surgery. Slap-scandal. Slap- baby-loss. Slap-drugged orgies. And we're still taking about the beginning chapters here. It gives us a catalogue of completely versatile characters to sink our teeth into. All have been cleverly linked together which results in so much excitement you think you might burst. You know when you skip a few pages or skim read very fast to try get to find out the gossip? That's this book. Don't though, you can't, you will miss far too much by doing that. I'm seriously the most impatient person in the world so if I can do it you can too.
I loved the clever way the author writes from one character to the next, making you think it all ties into the before persons chapter. When sometimes it doesn't It brings a new type of excitement into reading which I really, truly appreciated. Kudos to Anna-Lou Weatherley for that.
Underneath the lies, secrets, death and debauchery lies a sad tale of love and heartbreak though. It's a tale that will have your nerves shot to see what's happening next, but your heart aching for the pain and hurt some of the characters face. It's a continuous battle of love and affection and it will have you needing and wanting more. You really won't be disappointed.
Revenge, infidelity, incest, orgies, drugs, guns, blackmail, murder and wicked wives. A book that is a must for you and your eyes!
This is going into my book of the year 2013 category it is simply divine.
Seriously go get yourself a copy ASAP!
Tom Black is the ultimate playboy. His dream is to own a luxury casino, but the dream slips through his fingers as he gambles away his millions in Las Vegas. Old flame Loretta seizes the opportunity to help Tom out, but only at a price....
Meanwhile friends Ellie and Tor are also linked to Tom Black. A tangled web of lies and passion soon spirals out of control. Can any of these women tame him? Or is Tom playing with the heart and mind of each and every one of them?
At first I found it difficult to keep track of the characters. There are quite a few and their lives are all intertwined, which took a while to get my head around. However, once I did I was completely hooked- this was escapism pure and simple. Follow the rich and the powerful as they all fight for attention and vie for all their hearts' desire-these women are used to getting what they want and they don't care how they get it! Loretta in particular deserves a mention. She is just the kind of woman I love to hate in fiction- selfish, manipulative and bitchy beyond belief.
I was in the mood for a proper romp of a book and Wicked Wives fitted the bill perfectly. It was like a soap opera in a book-compelling and addictive, sometimes reassuringly predictable yet with the odd curve-ball that left my jaw gaping in disbelief.
It reminded me very much of Tasmina Perry's books, but I think I preferred Wicked Wives. The women were sharp, cunning and devious, which I loved, and although far from the perfect man I must admit Tom Black was exceedingly attractive (helped along by the fact I visualised him as looking like Chris Noth-yum!), all the women falling at his feet is testament to the fact I'm not the only one feeling the heat!
If you like your fiction challenging and thought provoking this probably isn't the book for you, but if you are after an entertaining, easy read full of glamour, lust and competitive women then you'll love it.
